Hi,

I hear and read it over and over again. People say that you don't need backlinks to get traffic. Just posting good content on a regular basis is enough.

There is a seller here on BHW who does exactly that. With just around 20 posts he claims to get around 300-400 visitors/day.
I had a look at a sample site and it just had the posts on the page without even having categories, thus no siloing.

Almost no images as well, only on the homepage there are about 4-5 images.
I checked backlinks, and there were around 10 or so from different domains.

Now, to my claim that it doesn't work:

I have started some sites where I simply began to post just to see if it is true what those people are talking, most of them having a siloed structure and around 20 articles.

Guess how many visitors I get: Around 0/day even after over 6 months!!!

So, what is all this talk about getting traffic without backlinks? Is this for real or not? If yes, why does no site of my receive those
traffic numbers?

What have you experienced?

I think your missing the point, these days you have to post relative content on relative pages and or site in order to help you rank :)

No, I am not missing the point, I still mean NO BACKLINKS, there are seos even here who say it works

Maybe you are missing the post IF... a. the post makes somebody google the subject and b. your site is at the top of the search results

Backlinks are just a way to determine how important your website is vs all the hundreds of other sites out there.
But I'll give you an example of how you can rank on the first spot with no backlinks:
By using keyword(s) which are absolutely rare or make no sense at all.
Let's say you name your post title "waga waga mugu mugu lala lala". If a user now searches for THAT phrase of keywords, he will probably only find YOUR blog post because no one else would use that sort of phrase as a blog post title since it makes no sense at all. Understood?

ok guys, enough with that newby kid's talk. Just to remind you I am not new to seo and all of you probably don't read the posts until the end, I guess.

There I don't talk about ranking for zero traffic keywords, I talk about TRAFFIC, ok? This traffic comes from SEs, not from social media sites. So, please if you have something useful to say, please contribute otherwise it's better not to deviate from the topic.

Dude, I think the step you're likely missing is Keyword Research. Write content based on longtail keywords, and you will rank with 0 backlinks. You will get traffic with 0 backlinks. I've done it, it works.

Clam down, I have a good advice for you.
Why not buy some traffic for your site?

Do you think I'm stupid? You can't just post an article and expect to get hundreds of visitors a day out of nowhere. There's something called competition, ever heard of that? If there are 100 sites which appear in google for your keyword, why would Google prefer to put you on the first spot with no backlinks at all compared to your competitors who all have backlinks?

u need backlinks
even forums nowadays needs some backlinks
content, and posts daily are best
but if u don't have backlinks and people engaged let say on ur forum, u wont get far

Unfortunately there's more to siloing than just posting under categories

Siloing only works when the silos are water-tight and there is a dynamic menu linking in place

bruceclay.com and themezoom.com have plenty of info on siloing

I supply a WordPress plugin/theme package to do it correctly - demo site: demo.siloplugin.com

You need a minimum of 5 articles per silo plus the silo landing pages, and home page - so a typical silo site with 5 silos would need 31 pages plus the mandatory pages such as privacy, contact, etc.

LSI keyword research is also required

It can be done without backlinking - just relying on the ping list - but if nothing happens after a month, then its time to get a handful of backlinks

This is not blackhatworld anymore, this has become black troll world. people will write all the shit except on the topic.

Now lets come on the topic :

It is impossible to get traffic by only posting to the site, unless u have targeted a long tail keyword (knowingly or unknowingly). You have to rank somewhere.
I created a site on yoga and health almost 2 year ago. I only posted the content. No backlinks. the posts were about how x, y or z celebrity lose his or her weight. and all that. after few months i found that I am on first page for many keywords. mostly of them are celebrity name + weight loss. some of them were in top 3.

I started to get nice flow of traffic. those keywords did not have much competition. but with cpc $10+, I was earning good with adsense. all was good till some bastard clickbombed my adsense account on one of my tech blog and all got screwed.

So it is possible to get traffic but you have to rank somewhere , somehow.

Where is this traffic coming from? the search engines? or what are you trying to say?

Dude,

If you want to get traffic you need to keep in mind several things.

1.- Your content should be awesome (crapy content won't work, at least not for Google)
2.- Your titles should have the keyword you want to rank for
3.- You need to ping your blog into blog search engines (I have a big list if you want it, just PM me and I'll send it to you)
4.- Keep Blogging. The more posts you have, the better.
5.- Share your stuff on social media. (unless you don't want any kind of backlink but that's up to you)
6.- Be cool!

ok, yes, I cooled down, probably I was on the white hat section for too long...

No, really, I think there were some good points here.
Yes, all traffic from SEs and it's right, that it all depends on getting content for the right keywords. however, if you really write a lot then you will accidentally rank for long tails which you never targeted and maybe would never be shown by keyword tools either.

And I think here lies the secret: Writing a ton of articles so that you rank automatically for a lot of long tails. yes, you are right that you need backlinks if you want to rank for big keywords, but that's not the goal here. the goal is simply to get traffic from SEs but from long tails only.
and I guess if you post so much then google will also rank you much quicker for long tails either.

demo.siloplugin.com

yes, this looks nice and this is what I also did. I used the Ultimate SEO plugin to do that but the problem with that plugin is that you cannot display more than 5 articles per silo on a page.

btw, what did you mean with "water-tight"?
