Switch from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1 - Worth it?

I'm not gonna upgrade to 8.1 anytime soon, I'm happy with 7.

Let's put it this way: Let's imagine world war III starts, everyone dies of hunger and Justin Bieber, Hitler and Michael Moore share the presidency of the world.... Still better than win 8.1

Son of a bitch that is one hell of a statement!

I tried using it and gave up quickly!

Transitioning from Windows 7 to a Mac was much easier than Windows 7 to 8 in my opinion.

If you like Windows 7 and you're happy with it, why do you even consider upgrading? Windows 8 is a better option only on touchscreen devices IMO.

+1

Win 8 is made with touchscreens in mind and as few users have it its pretty useless compare to Win7 at this stage.

I wouldn't make the switch unless you have a touchscreen. Otherwise, it'll make things a bit more convenient but not enough to be worth the hassle or expense, in my opinion.

I used Win 8 for a year on my old laptop. It provided a few new tools and switching between programs was a bit more convenient, but nothing major. The screen shattered and I spent three weeks using my hub's laptop with Win 7 -- not a big change. He bought me a new laptop a few days ago (thank you, sweetie!) ... I'm using the touchscreen a lot more than I thought I would, and Windows 8.1 is turning out to be a lot more functional because of it.

For people who says windows 8 sucks. Can you care to explain why? As kinlee explained, you can set your windows 8 to desktop mode and it will feel the same as windows 7. Used windows 7 and 8 with no complaints.

I'm a mac user though! :D

I would not recommend upgrading, I have windows 8 and just use the normal windows 7 features

If you are not one of the people who can't stand the start screen and Metro apps, the performance and feature enhancements are unbeatable in 8.1. Go for it!

I think Windows 8.1 is better for touch although I used Win7 with touch capable devices for a while and never had any issues. I have noticed more registry errors on Win 8.1 than I ever had on Win7 but I think that may be simply due to software, not the OS. Win7 never gave me any real issues and I have had a few already with Win 8.1. ThinkingWin 8.1 is like Vista, an unpaid beta phase for the next MS OS.
