I am doing SEO for a digital marketing company
1)how do i promote company in discussion forums ?
and
2)what type of discussion forums should i search for?
i know it will help in terms of crawling but
3)will it be worth in terms of relevant traffic ?

Much too general of a question... but I'll try to give you a few suggestions.

A good tool for finding discussions about your niche is BuzzBundle. I believe you can input your niche and it will send you relevant platforms of discussion, on which you can chime in and send traffic to your website. That should cover 1 & 2. It's a paid product, not free.

If that doesn't work for you, do a search for discussion-related keywords that are relevant to your niche.

Additionally you can generate your own discussion via social media.

Will it be worth it? Of course! How could associating yourself/your brand with a relevant audience not benefit you?

Artvandelay .....well what i am trying to ask in my first question is what category of forums will be helpful for a digital marketing company ?

Any kind of forum that has discussions on that topic.
BHW is on of them.

If you want to find more forums like this, I suggest you simply google them
All kinds of forums could be appropriate - web masters, designers, marketing most of all.
Everybody that needs SEO.

Just don't blatantly promote your business though. That would only annoy forum members.

Firstly, it's fairly difficult to promote company on discussion forums, because most people in the forum hates that. You could advertise mostly just once in their respective BST forum, but in other topics it's fairly useless. Unless your digital marketing company have news site (which you can share the news, with the link to the target site), or have interesting artworks. In conclusion, to promote a company, or a site, in the forum, it's important to have something to sell to the forum members. This includes interesting articles, interesting facts, interesting pictures, etc. But this does not "interesting" articles who only promote your own company. Never, ever promote nakedly on the forum, though some will come, most of them will shun you on the end.

For digital marketing, try webmaster forum, beginner website forum, designer forum, etc.

Forum posting will not help very much in terms of traffic.

Find Community of people who dont know about IM and try to sell your products and seo services to them .

Example :- Forums for handicrafts which have community of offline businessman.
