For several years I had a few guys from Dhaka, BD working for me on a full time basis and they called me sir.
In my family there are no sirs, no Mr. BTBs, not formalities like that at all.
I got to know these guys on a personal basis and asked them to call me by my given first name and neither one felt comfortable doing that as that was not how things worked in their culture despite our personal relationship.
I deferred to their cultural proclivities as that was a sign of respect to them from me.
I'm not saying everyone should do that but I can't for the life of me not see why one would not return the respect being shown to them by accepting how things go in their world.

Fair enough. It just feels weird. Especially from those guys that use female avatars. Plenty of them on Fiverr.
When used like this, it's a bit formal, but not an issue.
