Do they work? Yes! However, If you are trying to rank solely with the help of social signals, you are not going to see much success.

They work great when backed with good backlinks.
 
main factor is that you need everything for your site get like natural.

of course, natural high quality sites have social activity, but spam activity will not work.

Social signals, fake or real, can help in many ways on the respective platform itself. So, they can be useful...but they do NOTHING, ZERO, NADA, NICHTS, ничего, NIETS, NIENTE for organic Google rankings. They are not a ranking factor. Really, they do absolutely nothing.

Yes, very popular websites have loads of social signals, but it's a typical "cum hoc ergo propter hoc" fallacy. Basically means correlation isn't causation, something you should always have in mind when dealing with statistics.
 
You can try it for yourself but it does not seem to directly have an impact on SEO.
 
One more thing to think about: Facebook is one of the biggest competitors for Google, they fight for advertising money, every dollar spent on Facebook Ads is a lost dollar for Adwords. Would you create algorithms that rely on access to a competitors website? Would you use data you can't verify and can't check for manipulation like your own, although you absolutely don't have to? Certainly not.
 
It surely helps. But it mostly depends on the niche and your competitors. And same time, it can't be more appropriate way than building back links. I have seen few local language youtube channels and their sites - they got popular just by Facebook views, likes and shares - I dont think, they could have build back links, but when it comes to national or international targets, you need stronger social signals and back links combined.
 
They definitely help - we've tested this. Linkedin, Pinterest, FB, Twitter, G+ all help
 
It does matter as long as natural!

Search engine crawls them as easy than your website.

But it must be niche relevant!
 
It works definitely.

It may not get you 1st page from the bottom for a highly searched keyword, but still, you get some initial ranking.
You can get 5th or 6th-page ranking with just good content and social signals.

Signals that work:-
FB share, repins, retweets, google +1 votes.
 
its not needed to rank right now. but i would understand why they would do that in the future.
 
I think that social absolutely affects SEO and I believe that it will continue to more and more. There are a lot of social signal sites that show up in Google searches such as Tumblr, WordPress, BlogSpot, etc.
 
Anyone who says "no" aren't doing it right. Social signals play a big part in any ranking process, period.
