Hello!

Let's say I received payment of $50 for my website that John bought from me. Website and domain is still mine, tho, registered on my name and web files are still at m hosting.

Let's say I have hosting from Freehostia, he wants that domain and files at another hosting. How to do that and is that even possible?
Like, you can transfer domains, but he will have to reupload all files?

Let's say I have free hosting at Freehostia, John wants hostin plus (just made that up :D ) at godaddy.com that costs $10/year , transfer costs $10 for .com/ year. Should I pay for that? Should hepay for that? Should I include these expenses to total cost of $70 ?

Thanks! :)

Hey there,
This is what I suggest you do. Transfer the domain to him (both spilt the costs) give him the public_html plus the database and baam. Your done. But I def suggest spliting the transfer cost

Transfer the domain, he has to pay it.
Give him access to the files and it's his problem to transfer them...

Have him set up a domain account where you have the domain at right now. You do this almost all domain companies allow for a free push of the domain to another user on their system so no cost.

when you sell a site 2 things usually happen.

1. You give customer login and they copy the files and move to their own hosting account.
2. You give them a backup of the files and they still load on their own hosting account.

either way you dont keep the site on your server unless they are paying you for it. You could offer to help set it up for them on their server but that is really up to you.

Best of luck

Thats pretty much exactly what I have thought as well when reading your post.

Best of luck with the procedure!

I've sold many websites before, and this is my process.

1. Transfer the domain to buyer registrar account (buyer pay the transfer fee)
2. Backup all website source code + database, upload to website sharing file (such as: mediafire) with password protected. Then give buyer the link to download all.
3. Send buyer all the account of website + database (site admin account, mysql account, email account,...)
and done!
I hope this help.
