I understand that blogging has changed and the way that Google looks at her websites.

Is a site map necessary for a WordPress blog?

If so what's the best site map to install on our blogs?

Any SEO plugin will have the sitemap extension by default. Yoast, Rank Math, All in one SEO and so on. Choose what you fit for you.

Yes you need a sitemap. As mentioned above, tons of seo plugins will create one for you. Depending on your website's structure, you may not want all of your pages indexable.

Many benefits of having a sitemap on your site and you don't even need to fret anything about it , as once you've installed yoast, there's already a compliant-sitemap that comes with it, and it auto updates itself. So submitting your sitemap to GSC would help with indexing, and it also helps the search engine giving you a slightly better recognition (metric) as your site is a little bit more legit with a sitemap submitted.

A sitemap is absolutely necessary if you want Google to index your website properly. Since you’re a Wordpress user, Yoast will do just fine. If you are using the free version of Wordpress, you can google some sitemap generators, there are plenty of free ones.
