So in your opinion, what will take me farther in life? SEO or Web Design? I know this is a very bias question but just based on your experience. I am young, sophomore in hs, and have had some previous experience in web design using website building softwares such as Adobe Muse. I realised that this is taking me the wrong place and if I want to continue building websites I need to do it the right way (html, css, javascript). I have started to learn some html but recently came to the thought if I should head in the direction of SEO. If ANYONE could help me out that would be amazing! Just want any insight on which path you would recommend me to take etc. Thank you and have a great day. :D

But the issue is I have no experience in SEO so I can't say which I like. I am looking for someone with some experience in either subjects. Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

If you really want to get somewhere with web development, I would start learning python now. A lot of the great tools out there that are web based are starting to be built on python. This will give you the ability to make some great web based tools. You obviously need to know html, css, php, and javascript for most basic web development. (please notice the php)

The better your web development skills are, the better your websites (and or tools, people love web tools) and the easier it will be to get natural links to your site from good sites that will boost your webpages. SEO is a good skill to learn, but like they always say, if you build it (and it is awesome) they will come! Just build something that people want that is web based.

You will need SEO but it is all pretty much common sense. You need people to link to you site and to like your content. It only becomes a chore when you are looking to promote less than great sites/tools or if you are entering a completely saturated niche. If you do your research properly and find a need that you can fill with a webtool, the SEO will be the easy part.

Just my two cents! Good luck!

Your asking a quistion where both fit to one another,
The internet is based on a markup lanuage html and seo

any markup lanuage can be learn as a course
and know and then has updates, but seo dont work that way, seo is a optimisation of html or others, seo takes years to to learn as it chages a lot with current trends.

you got to learn web design to be able to implement seo to a page.

    your quistion to vain

seo is harder to understand and inplement then learning web design.

You can not make money just knowing seo, becouse seo uses markup lanuage
so you have to learn both.

Honestly, start with web design and branch out into SEO/Programming/scripting.

Web designing will be handy when you comes to SEO. So learn both SEO and Web designing that brings some $$$.

Start with web design. Make sure you understand how a website functions and slowly you will naturally start learning SEO if it at all interests you, if it doesn't you will most likely become interested in either programming or design.

Do Web Design and Development then go for SEO as they both have a strong bond between each other :)

Would be my recommendation, too. SEO isn't that easy if you don't want to rely on things that could get your clients penalized like PBNs and similar. For own sites, other story, but for clients, SEO is a lot different from what you are often finding and reading here. Most of it is knowing people and people who know people. You need a good network, other agencies, publishers, etc. That's nothing technical you can learn, that's something you have to grow over time.

In addition, web design is a great way to make a client "your" client long term. Most small to medium "brick & mortar" style companies look for a all in one solution. Someone who builds the website, maintains hosting and the website, updates it if needed...and does SEO as well. Especially basic local SEO is a great way to start, competition isn't fierce, you can rank well without too much effort. Works like a clockwork, no fancy or really creative approaches needed. Being this one partner can be very profitable, one time charge for the website, plus a long term (or short term auto-renewal) service contract that includes maintenance, updates and SEO. This type of customer is very loyal and stay forever if they are happy with the overall package and results, they don't expect some shiny pitch, deals are made during a nice meal.

Later, you can expand the SEO branch steadily. Important: If you buy some links here, you'll rarely get a report. That's different in the "real" SEO world, because there are so many ripoff SEO companies, transparancy is a must have for trust. Clients expect some sort of proof or work, what was done, why was it done and how do rankings and traffic develope.

You need to know Web Design in order to know what makes people want to visit your site. Basically to make everything visually appealing. You should start doing SEO once you build up a website and start trying to rank low-competition keywords.

Personally I went to school for Web Development, graduated but then learned SEO on this forum and now I work from home doing Amazon affiliate.

I'm going back to school to learn some more codes (Java, Python, etc.) but learning SEO definitely goes hand-in-hand with Web Design. Cause obviously once you get a client they're going to want to get more traffic to their site.

In the end its all about the $$$$$. Knowing both Web Design and SEO will open you up to way more opportunities.

Go for both as they would mostly go hand in hand if you are not talking about professional web development in the form of programming.
