Blog articles are a great way to expand your keywords and build a bigger metaphorical net to get traffic to your website.

Are there any guides about how to do basic SEO work for individual article pages?

The reason I ask is I plan to do 2 blog articles a week for the next couple of years to get a big net out there. If there is a streamlined way to SEO each page to get better results I would die to read that guide.

Or am I going down the wrong path? Should I just focus on SEOing the domain itself and let the link juice pass on?

Edit: I've done some searching on BHW and I can't find what I'm looking for. That is why I am doubting that people are individually SEOing individual articles.

I'd focus on building links to the home page first. You need a strong base of brand keywords and URLs as anchor texts. One you have that, then I would give attention to inner pages, keeping the anchor text as URLs. Forum posts are good for that.

Once you're beginning to rank from those, you'll be able to identify your strongest content, and you should build much stronger links (e.g. guest posts, PBN posts etc) using keywords in the anchor text.

I'd make sure that at least 80% of anchor text to any page is brand or URL.

The website has been up and running for about 3 years and the backlinks to the domain are pretty solid. Obviously it can always be better and we are in a high competition market. We have been on local news stations for the business and those backlinks are gold. A lot of the domain SEO has been done. That being said, does that change your response at all @Unreliable Witness ?

Should I still focus on the domains SEO or is it time to focus on building individual page SEO?

If it is, is there a guide that anyone remembers that can help me streamline or even do partial automation so there isn't so much grunt work?

I'd be very careful about automation because you can't easily undo link building on sites that you don't control.

If you feel you have a strong link profile to your home page, then build out to other pages.

I'd be careful about using keyword rich anchor text - instead use phrases containing part of the keyword as anchor text as well as URLs. There will be information somewhere on BHW about this. You won't have problems if you only build a few links to each page, but you'll trigger a Penguin filter if you build many with the same anchor text. Of course, no-one outside of Google knows exactly what the limit is.

I prefer to build to information pages, which then link to product pages. I think that looks more natural. You can also promote the articles you are linking to via social media - yours or other friendly businesses.
