It's 2030. You're hooked on an advanced AI powered VR headset. You don't search for queries anymore, you don't even think about them. The AI algorithm automatically pulls things out of your subconscious and answers automatically. You look outside and see a homeless man panhandling. It's a former SEO guru.

Won't say its dead but there is room for very few small publishers.

The Major players will continue to dominate.

Google will continue to act as a parasite and leech on publishers data to further expand its already massive database

It won't be dead at anytime timing makes it difficult for us, so keep patient and do the consistent work with more ideas so we can get the results

How is this different from Featured Snippets?
In the sense that featured snippets were third-party websites. So, there was a fair chance that the user will go to the website from which Google picked the contents for the snippet. In this case however, it's google itself that's answering. So, all the traffic that could come through a featured snippet, will now be lost.

The real SEO seems to be OUTREACH these days, email phone numbers, dms etc.

what about the sites like directories (classified ads) . Where user will need to enter website to watch listing?
also e-commerce online shops etc.

I think it will become hard to get traffic. We can consider AI content generated by Google as a site post due to which people will experience less CTR. However, not all game is dead as per my perspective. I am eager to know other viewpoint also.

Well, it will have inpact on some fields - but I think, while most of us use chatGPT allready for a lot of tasks, we still use search engines as well.
AI has it's advanteges in not time sensitive informational content. The stuff, SEO builds up mostly is time sensitive and most likly commercial, though.

We will see a drop in relevance of informational SEO, but commercial is still a thing. IDK if we can still call it SEO, but optimizing for a search algo or for an AI model is not that different in the end. And Google will still need it's search engine to feed the AI. The game will be mostly the same - some markets will drop or disappeer, others will rise...
