Really great article, I was aware of the Hidden rule, but tbh never thought much about the First Link Counts Rule.

Google doesnt like things about how it works being revealed. They'll let search engine land back, but this will be a warning about the sort of content they are allowed to post.
 
I'm pretty sure this is just a temporary issue.
 
Dry interesting. Also, I don’t believe it was a mistake - sites get flagged up not removed for being hacked.

Also we know that big companies like Google can be petty still. I’m sure they probably removed them as a warning or just as a knee jerk reaction to that article...
 
I only make the finest of websites, so I haven't come across deindexing before. However I thought that they get slowly deindexed page by page, not all in one hit.
 
I don't think that an article like that would result in deindexing... It didn't reveal some internal secrets or something serious
 
Best piece of info from that article:
There is no doubt that a bot can render a page. We can observe it in both Google Search Console and Google Insight Speed. Nevertheless, my tests revealed that a block of text displayed after clicking the show more button was fully indexed. The phrases hidden in the text ranked in the search results and GB was following the links hidden in the text. Moreover, the anchors of the links from a hidden block of text were visible in Google Search Console in the Anchor Text section and page13.html also began to rank in the search results for the keyword anchor9.

This is crucial for online shops, where content is often placed in hidden tabs. Now we are sure that GB sees the content in hidden tabs, indexes them, and transfers the juice from the links that are hidden there.


 
The only one reason why searchengineland got deindexed is because Google is out of control. Since August they keep dropping some of the pages from my site from SERP. Nex day they index them again. Right now algorithm update is rolling out, so what they said it was because of virus on website - bullshit!

My thoughts exactly, i've see hacked sites ranking and they were flagged as harmful. I didn't have site of my own slapped with malware/hack penalty and I'm not sure exactly how this work but I also believe sites don't get deindexed, just flagged. Maybe someone with more experience can chime in?

LOL. This highlights why being big authority site with a lot of influence and connections with Google employees is so important.
Have you ever seen regular site (let's say small biz) recover this fast? Within hours?
 
You're all falling for one of the best marketing schemes we've seen a while. SEL has someone on the inside of Google search team and had them deindex their site to drum up exposure. The end.

In the 2017 summer, my porn website was hit by deindex with no reason at all. Almost 48 hours after the reconsideration request, my site recovered

Was this ever a question ?? What I want to know is what does hiding content or tabbing it do to said contents relevancy/ranking value. My site does 20-30k a day in Ecom business and thinking of doing a test regarding this soon to share with everybody.

I read this when it came out and honestly can’t say I found any real useful actionable items here... kinda a nothingburger (can’t say I parsed it for very long though so could be wrong)
