I have a client who had a bad article published about them several years ago that they want to make disappear. I have begun creating other sites and blogs that I am going to make rank higher for the keyword of his name.

My question though, has to do with the keyword selection. The article is in a newspaper with the title "new times". Do you think I should make my anchor text include "his name + new times" in order to make it so that if someone is looking specifically for the article they won't be able to find it, or will that just bring link juice to the other website through associations?

couple of thoughts as i manage some clients my self.

i wouldnt worry about it too much unless your client is known for what they did and a person that knows him would search for that article. if its anyone else searching for your clients name, that article doesnt matter if its not on the first couple of pages. id be more concern if the article showed up for keywords like "name + scam', 'name + fraud' or 'name + ripoff' as these are the keywords most people search for.

IMO, if they are going to search for your clients name + the name of the article, then they already know about the negative stuff. I would focus on just the name.

I've recently been working on a similar project. Within the top 20 results my client had 3 negative listings in the results (5,10,17). One article on an authority site and several forum/blog responses to the article. I picked out 10 positive sites already listed within the top 50 results and blasted them with xrumer. This was 2.5 weeks ago. Now they are (6,17,46) I've created new social media pages and will blast those shortly.

* one mistake i made was not doing a niche specific blast w/ xrumer. Some of the back links are starting to pop up under the results and one of them was a bondage site ;) It is gone now and was buried pretty deep so the client never saw it.

I think that's pretty straight on. I am just worried because I ran a xrummer blast with the name and new times, i am worried that it will add juice to the new times article, you make a good point though, although i was trying to hide the article from people who were even specifically looking for that one.

yeah this client is a premium one and i am worrying about anything being traceable, having a bondage site would be disastrous for me lol. This article is from 2006 and a lot of the other articles are old so when I did the xrummer on the old articles I think big G's algorithm caught them.

I have now revised my strategy, and am taking those articles, rewriting them, then spinning those new articles, posting them on different domains and then using XgenSEO to submit them to social and other sites.

What do you think of my new method, and should I use Xrummer on these new links, and if so, do u think I should wait or do it immediately?

Why articles? Maybe I'm misunderstanding you. Is it the articles you wrote that you are wanting to out rank the bad article or are you using those to pass link juice to other listings? You don't want those spun articles showing up on the first page. I would create profiles (facebook, twitter, linkedin, youtube) and some blogs or whatever is appropriate for your client. You will want to use authority sites. Then backlink the crap out of them w/ xrumer, scrapebox, xgen whatever you have at your disposal. I like to reposition the ones already ranked. ie add juice to the lower ranking listings in the results.

That's what I was trying to do, but the articles are like 3 or 4 years old, won't the algorithm catch the fact that all these old pages are going up? i put a small run of xrummer and it didn't seem to make much difference, what do you think?

3 or 4 year old articles are the best push it up if you dont know what your doing there are companies that specialize in this like ProfileDefenders.com I think the best strategy is to do the proper diligence on what shows up for random searches related to said client. Also are you familar with LSI?
