Reddit mass removing comment links today?

they aren't getting removed at the same time bro. That would be obvious were a little smarter then that. its actually been a slow dwindle for 3 days straight
Yes its spread over time. But when got removed its at exact same time. Checked on about 30+ subreddit (clients sub where I am mod) its exact same time for the comments that got removed with reason sitewide rule. Not all comments are removed.

It's not that easy. I have some comments up still from the domains I promote. I can still comment them on new posts, just not old posts.

It's not a domain related thing. Comments with links are probably more sensitive, but unlinked comments on an old post will get removed if you send upvotes. Let alone trying to add a link to that.
are you saying on new threads your linked comments haven't been removed? Only on OLD threads? if thats true that is an interesting breakthrough in the algorithm and it means that anything old can't be upvoted now and links are heavily scrutinized

There is no pattern from what I can see, reddit is just doing some sort of aggressive sweep across all posts at certain times during the day and deleting backlinks. they are not trying to be careful not to delete links that are legitimate, they are being very aggressive about it and I can see why, the spam over the last few months got too crazy and it was kind of obvious move for them.

do you think upvoting matters? im now convinced it does matter cause i got regular posts removed that had no link and that rarely happens. theonly thing they had was upvotes. are you still bleeding? i literally have lost more links in the last 12 hours i thought the bleeding was over but its continued since friday like a long drawn out process. why is that? there servers need to update all the comment information and it took days to get to them all? or is it cause hte mods arenow being flagged and some are taking days to delete it?

it's not being deleted by mods, it's being deleted by reddit itself, the spam game is pretty over it seems, but let's see how it plays out. I would say it's a long process since reddit is fuck*ng huge and it take time to sweep through all the posts/comments

how aobut comments without a clickable link? anyone trying domain.com as text but not clickable? we could try that to see how it bypasses

That will be the next step, but lets see conversion rates.

Or linking to other Reddit posts, but probably also not working

I agree - from reading this thread and the numerous mentions of "comments with upvotes", it appears to me that Reddit have made an algorithmic update that looks for suspicious patterns of upvotes on comments.

Would be simple with machine learning for the algo to learn comment upvoting patterns that are natural and humanlike vs upvoting that is automated/botted/purchased.

Once the algo spots these comments with non-human upvoting behaviour, it removes them. Mods don't need to be involved at all, removal process is fully automated.

I think they have made other changes too to do with links, how old a post is etc., but to me, it for sure looks like patterns of upvotes are now being scanned at scale by an algo, not manually by mods.

Just figure out which URL is common that you promoting, its a sitewide ban on that domains. so each and every comment containing that domain getting removed.

when reddit ban any domain site wide then, all existing posts, comments containing that get auto removed.
Seen all the comments get removed at exact same time.

In subreddit mod logs its removed by the user who are reddit admin.
Maybe read the thread before commenting?

This is not what has happened. Even internal reddit links are being banned.

Reddit may have won this battle, but we will find a way. I think what you do now is monitor Reddit for new posts ranking (less than 1 month old) and those can still be a target potentially.

Can always create your own posts similar to what is ranking and plant a seed comment in there a few days later hoping it ranks.

Definitely need to be more creative, but not sure it's worth the time compared to alternatives.

And you guys don't believe they read BHW :D :D

If I was to guess generally what is happening, what we are seeing is a result of the new Google & Reddit partnership: https://blog.google/inside-google/company-announcements/expanded-reddit-partnership/

Google wants clean data from Reddit to train it's AI models "Reddit plays a unique role on the open internet as a large platform with an incredible breadth of authentic, human conversations and experiences".

So Google needs "authentic, human conversations", data from Reddit to train its models on. Spam comments and comments with manipulated upvotes are the opposite of this.

Problem is Reddit relies heavily on human moderators to keep the data clean, which is inefficient. So in steps Google to lend a hand with their sizeable expertise in the area:
"we’re pleased to announce a new Cloud partnership that enables Reddit to integrate new AI-powered capabilities using Vertex AI. Reddit intends to use Vertex AI to enhance search and other capabilities on the Reddit platform."

The "other capabilities" is likely everything we have started seeing the last week. My guess is Google sent a team of machine learning engineers, data scientists and others over to Reddit months ago with the goal of ensuring Reddit data is cleaned up.

Google benefits by having clean data to train it's AI models. Reddit benefits by having less spam, providing a better experience for users, which is ideal for a company that is about to IPO. Investors love stories of huge percentage reductions in spam.

People who are just trying to make a buck by sharing & upvoting links on Reddit are unfortunately the losers.

what's wrong I said in comment?
are you read another comment as well?, shared the finding that we noticed.
shared what we noticed, still looking for more insights.
even if as a mod we approve comment it get removed later directly from user who are Reddit admin. and we cant even see what was that comment as only message is Removed by Reddit.

That's why I not reply to any thread.

I saw that happening too, but in many cases I have seen it "deleted by moderator" maybe reddit has informed moderators about some upcoming changes?

ive seen some people linking to internal reddit posts but i also seen them getting removed but sometimes staying. id imagine the conversion rates are low though? a non clickable link probably has a low conversion rate. but we dont know if a non clickable link can even stay up ? someone needs to test. i think they are staying up i think i know of one person that does that

Wait until they figure out how many subreddits are owned by specific companies in the industry and remove all their competitors positive feedback and their own negative feedback in their controlled subreddits.

The SEO Spam was a temporary gold mine. Reddit is still a gold mine for brands that control 100s of accounts with unlinked mentions.

lol this is 100 percent true. im seeing some guys takeover subreddits just to turn it into a spam fest and they were originally regular popular subreddits but now its one guy with puppet accounts. its been happening alot the last few months it was happening before but its become an epidemi the last few.

thing is AI is just a glorified algorithm cause im sure if it does something advanced its gotta get "approved" by people above to make sure its not doing too much damage. its not some creative human being tha has amind of its own so there IS a set pattern basically where you can get an idea of what generally not to do and what you can do. before for example upvoting was not requiring thought now if you do it you may have to do it cautiously or most of the time not for example if upvoting is a factor.

I just had another comment that was upvoted but had no links or anything and had been up for months removed today
