Reddit mass removing comment links today?

I am a moderator and I got some spam reports on some people who had edited their comments in a 1 year old thread. This is extremely unusual and has never happened before, since most people do not read 1 year old posts.

I have never seen this before, so i'm guessing reddit (bots) are flagging comments as spam and then moderators are choosing to remove them or not.

After you meet a criteria of too many removals, you will get a global suspension or ban from reddit.

you

you mean it was put in the spam folder or it was also put in the "reported" folder?

Yes, I wouldn’t say that they delete everything too much, I also write there

It might be combination of that and auto removal.

I made 3 test comments in 3 unrelated subreddits last night. Each had a link in it. No upvoting.

All stayed for a few hours before I went to bed. I woke up this morning and all 3 are gone. No warnings on the accounts.

Maybe all 3 have super-active moderators but I doubt it since i've been hammering them for a while and never had an issue.

To me, it seems to be an overnight removal of comments on old posts that trigger warnings (links, edits, etc).

But if they're also flagging edited comments to moderators, it seems like it's going to be real tough to get past moderated subreddits going forward.

It was put in my reported folder.

I probably get like 1 spam report every month. But this was a 1 year old post and had 2 reports on it from an edited comment.

Edited comments usually slip past me (and I don't really care). This is the first time ive been alerted to one.

Funnily enough, I also had two accounts suspended for spamming - for promoting my own subreddit links organically. So even internal linking is considered as spam at this point.

Yup, it seems like internal links are treated as bad as external links. I tried internal linking to a reddit post and that got removed as well.

Damn, and I just thought I was good with all the new links I got injected in Reddit. Let's hope there will be a new method to do the job done.

Im noticing now even regular comments i had getting removed. no link and even no edit yet posted days or weeks ago and some got removed in the lsast few hours

But you did buy upvotes for these comments, right?
yeah i know 2 of them had upvotes originally i think there was a 3rd case not sure about the 3rd one.
you may be right there is an upvote element going on.

I looked and found another one never edited or added a link and it was also removed and it was upvoted

What I do now is to post the most popular links in my profile. Still can attract some clicks if someone checking out my profile. Hopefully if i continue posting more comments, more people will view my profile.

just found another comment i made that i happen to upvote without any links or comments nad tha was removed. so im seriously seeing more of a pattern ike you guys with upvoting even when no links

it's an end of an era, very similar to the google penguin update in 2012, there will be some ways to make money but the spam fest is over

Reddit may have won this battle, but we will find a way. I think what you do now is monitor Reddit for new posts ranking (less than 1 month old) and those can still be a target potentially.

Can always create your own posts similar to what is ranking and plant a seed comment in there a few days later hoping it ranks.

Definitely need to be more creative, but not sure it's worth the time compared to alternatives.

I think upvoting for sure is also out the window. Dont even waste your time upvoting it will just backfire

Just figure out which URL is common that you promoting, its a sitewide ban on that domains. so each and every comment containing that domain getting removed.

when reddit ban any domain site wide then, all existing posts, comments containing that get auto removed.
Seen all the comments get removed at exact same time.

In subreddit mod logs its removed by the user who are reddit admin.

they aren't getting removed at the same time bro. That would be obvious were a little smarter then that. its actually been a slow dwindle for 3 days straight

It's not that easy. I have some comments up still from the domains I promote. I can still comment them on new posts, just not old posts.

It's not a domain related thing. Comments with links are probably more sensitive, but unlinked comments on an old post will get removed if you send upvotes. Let alone trying to add a link to that.
