Recent Google Update: What's Your Opinion On This?

I did not see much rankings swings recently and luckily I do not use Yoast. But I think the big Google updates of the past like Panda are over, nowadays they constantly make small updates from what I read.

Seeing some effect on out AMP pages.. there are a lot of direct sessions on our AMP pages, which I can't explain.. Can you help me out?

Looks like im hit too. major traffic down 60% at least.... what i did to fix this is cleared Duplicate Title tags (Removed Comments Pagination) and make my site secure with h t tps Protocol. That's it now waiting for few days to check if it helps or not. i will update every 2 to 3 days here. i think we all who got hit should update here regarding what changes you have applied and what result you got. it will be really helpful

and Yes i have Yoast SEO Plugin and fixed above mentioned issue as well. Relating Image Posts as thin content...

I fixed the Yoast issue last week, or if it was the beginning of this week. Rankings has been climbing up very slowly. Not even close to the results I had before.
I think I had average ranking of 9-12 in March, today I am around 21.

It was between 25 and 30th of April that everything tanked. All meters literally hit the floor. Now I am starting to rank a little bit better, but it's going ultra slow. So slow that I don't even know if it's beginning to recover or not.

When I had the Yoast issue Google webmaster showed around 1300 indexed pages. After I fixed it I had around 40-50.

Very sad beginning of the summer.

*EDIT* Also a big thanks to the guys who informed about this Yoast issue.

My account is still new so I can't post the direct links, but if you fix these links below you'll find great articles talking and commenting about the Yoast issue.

How you fixed this issue? You only add "no" to "Redirect attachment URLs to the attachment itself?" ?

if you have just switched to https, it will take at least a month for you to see improvements. more like 2 months

All I did was changing "Redirect attachment URLs to the attachment itself" to Yes.

I should have noted everything down, as my memory is terrible. But I would think it took around 4 days before all the thin content got deindexed.

I did not do anything else.

I already have this checked to "yes", so I don't think this is my case :/

I agree - it'd be great if all those that have had issues post what they've done/what they think potential issues are.

I use the same structure for all my sites and the one page that has gone down is the only inner page I've ever built links to, so I am going to assume over optimization of some sort. I'll give it a few days then water down the keywords in the content.

Even pages on the same site (and other sites) that are verging on keyword stuffing are fine (some have increased well).

However my new posts are coming in First Page of SERP but after two or three days they disappears from 1st page to nowhere in SERP. I have no idea whats going on here

Just throwing it out there as a possibility.. a lack of links from sites of the correct topical trust flow..

That's what I've been seeing but I've only been looking at a small sample of sites. Maybe someone else could check to see if this is true or not

My main money website tanked after the April update after being in position 2 (and even hitting one) for a good 6 months, going down to position 10. I came across the Yoast issue yesterday, so I deindexed those pages and a lot of other thin content pages, and immediately saw the website climb 2 places within hours after submitting it for a reindex. I woke up this morning to find it's back down again and my traffic down even more than before. Has anybody got any ideas about why this might be?

guys - exactly, how did you fix your yoast isse? is it what the above user has mentioned?\
please take a look at this https://kb.yoast.com/kb/redirect-image-attachment-urls/
if you put "redirect attachment urls to the attachment itself" to yes, then "show media in search result" option is gone.

so when you say you have fixed it, exactly what did you do?

now with that all said, apparently putting the attachment to URL does not work the way it is supposed to. take a look at this:
https://github.com/Yoast/wordpress-seo/issues/9316
it provides a manual work-around

what is interesting is that yoast is silent on the fix
https://wordpress.org/support/topic/media-attachment-urls-settings/
https://wordpress.org/support/topic/attachment-page-indexing-disaster/

guys, joost, the main guy behind yoast has replied : https://github.com/Yoast/wordpress-seo/issues/9316
. the more I read about, the more I belive that yoast plugin is the culprit.

also, please read the solution provided here: https://www.seoblog.com/2018/04/wordpress-attachment-hurt-seo/

guys - to be on the safe side, go to your google webmaster tools / sitemap / on the right side, you will see 3 sections: all content type, web pages, images.

click on web pages and you will see the trend line for both submitted and indexed. this is a 30 day view. here is what I did:

may 17th: yoast / media section / made "Show Media in search results?" NO
Redirect attachment URLs to the attachment itself? was set to NO as well.
Had google fetch my website again

May 21st: number of indexed pages went from 325 to 174 and images went from 282 to 132

May 22nd: ranking for few keywords increased

so what I am trying to say is this: do not just rely on making some modifications in yoast, make sure you see the result in google sitemap section. also, having google fetch your side would not hurt after your modifications

p.s. now, I have "Redirect attachment URLs to the attachment itself?" as yes, which hides the option for ""Show Media in search results?". also, I have installed https://wordpress.org/plugins/attachment-pages-redirect/ (source: https://www.seoblog.com/2018/04/wordpress-attachment-hurt-seo/)
will let you kow what changes I notice
