As always google comes up with new updates. This time I have seen a lot of site getting hit, losing keyword visibility and traffic.

What do you think this update is targetting and what are you doing about it?

:)

A little drop a bit in traffic since a couple week, but nothing drastically. Maybe this update not affect in my country lol

Three of my pages have dropped from the first page to page 4, 8 and 13. The long tails for them have tanked as well.
The annoying thing about it is that these are updated every few months or so with new content. A site that is basically just a list of Amazon links has been catapulted up to position 2 on page 1. Also, one of the sites that has taken over the rankings for my page was last updated in October 2016 with a lot of out of date content and products that you can't buy anymore (unless you want to go down the second hand route).
To be honest, this update is pretty fucked up and it has seriously wrecked the rankings of my three best pages for that particular site.

If Google are trying to push through an update that will really help the end users, why use a fucking list of Amazon links on one result on page 1 and use an outdated article on page 1 as well. Fucking stupid! Of course, this is probably an elaborate plan for them to get more adwords revenue.

My content rich sites improved, my content lite sites dropped a little.
It's that old "Link, content, links content" round robin

Looks like false positive, good site being hammered and crappy one sees gain!

I dont see any major ups and downs in my sites :suspicious:

Thanks for the kind words :p
I'd definitely agree with you on that, and it's a pretty messed up algo that Google can't detect when a page was last updated. There is the argument that a newer page could potentially be worse than an older one. However, that isn't the case with mine since it is based on newer technology.

Did anyone make massive gains in march, then dropped at the end of last month?
For another site, yes.

Google is constantly making updates, the AI does it automatically. Only difference here is that it seems to have hit a nerve.

There is usually some volatility before an update settles. Ie, the update is implemented over a week or two, not in one hit. Ride it out and see what happens

What changes are you making?
For that site, it's more information based in a niche where there aren't many developments in it. I'll tweak it occasionally so that the content flows better but nothing major.

Hey, I don't know if it was related to the confirmed updates because my sites only got hit starting on Tuesday (may 8). Massive drops in the SERPs for two of my sites... both have been in top 3 results for their money keywords for more than 2 years. One is out of the top 100 and the other is at #97 as of this afternoon. Basically been moving lower everyday since Tuesday. First it was #3 to #6, then #9, thought it had stabilized yesterday with everything at the bottom of page 1/ top of page 2. Then about an hour ago, complete collapse. Most keywords are not in top 100.

Even for my non primary keywords on both sites they are tanking across the board. Pretty much all pages, all keywords have dropped from the top 100.

It feels like a penalty, but cannot figure out why, and there's no manual action message in WMT. Completely unrelated sites in separate niches. Different hosting, no common linking domains, different webmaster tools accounts. I can't think of anything that times them together except they have both been destroyed. Also, these are really not black hat sites. There were a few very high quality guest posts that I paid for, but from relevant niche blogs with DA over 30.

My three other (much smaller) sites haven't moved at all in SERPs.

Combined the two sites that have tanked make around $4k/month, which if this holds will go to near $0. No idea what to do or how to evaluate what has happened. I can't imagine the update is the cause since if there were widespread changes this large a lot more people would be on here and elsewhere talking about it.

Same as above. Everything has been dropping slowly until an hour ago when everything dropped out top 50 (2 weeks ago had 5 in top 10 and a further 20 in top 20
