Ranking is Dead in Google

I think, what you need to realise is the web si changing and you need to adapt. Ranking is not dead, your strategy may just become outdated.

Ultimately what Google wants is for their users/searchers to type something into Google and bang - they find what they are looking for (almost) straight away.

If your site gives the user what they are looking for, you won't (shouldn't) have any problems. I can't see backlinks going out of fashion anytime soon either. Just like a town/city, the larger, most popular have lots of signs pointing towards them from other smaller towns and cities. The same applies with websites. The websites that offer something of value to the users will get more backlinks (we're talking Whitehat here don't forget).

It all comes down to one thing in my mind - content.

Google (IMO) wants to give information and valuable content to the person using Google. If your site has the content and it helps the user, then great.

I'm also not convinced on the theory that they want everybody to simply move over to Adwords.

Content is king and that's what Google is for, to find content/information. Providing this (whitehat), is where your sites will get the longevity.

Is ranking really dead? I was watching a video from Bruce Clay. talking about how Google is building the Serps based on user experience. The results are based on your location, browsing/searching habits and much more. What that means is if 50 of us search for the term "Blue Widget" We could possibly all get 50 different top 10 rankings based on the new way Google is creating your results. He claims that there are over 200 new changes Google is going to implement.

What will this mean for us doing SEO/SEM? What will we need to change in order to meet the needs of our clients and our sites?

I know it must be all about analytics, ROI, Bounce rate etc....

I guess I should toss out ranking manager?

I would love to hear your feed back on this.

Thanks.
