How many outbound links are too many? Is there a rule?

No there isn't a written rule. However, the more text you have, the more freedom you have on placing Outbound links.

I heard one link per 500 words is fine.

no thats not true at all

main rule is to write naturally - if you think your reader will benefit from a link to something interesting then link to them. but if you have a new website or weak domain then err on the side of only linking out to authoritative sites

I have niche where on every post there are a lot of brands mentioned and I need to link them to their website. I thought to ask because I'm linking so much in every article.
