Question about tracking/testing/traffic [CPVLabs/Voluum/ExoClicks]

I've done a lot of research into CPA and have applied to a handful of networks. This morning I was accepted by a couple, one of which is CPAgrip. Simple.

I have my method laid out, I want to use YouTube to post vids relevant to the CPA offers and rank. I also wanna promote via email. Simple.

Here's the issue: Everyone is talking about tracking, testing and buying traffic.

Can someone explain to me how this works??
I can't seem to find any solid information..
I watched a video about a guy who was able to see exactly which mobile providers were actively effecting the profit of his campaign.. so, he could go in and pause the campaign for AT&T customers and reduce the bid for another provider for example.
I don't get how he was even able to do that in the first place if he has taken the CPA offer from CPAgrip.
If he puts the link in his YouTube vid and starts ranking it with HR views etc... surely that is his traffic.
Can you literally join a network like ExoClicks or Voluum and pay to have people go and visit said YT Vid??

I feel like this is the last little nugget of information I need before I can begin my first campaign. Any information is very much appreciated!! Cheers in advance

I think it depends on how he is getting his traffic. I know on Facebook there is a breakdown tab so you can narrow down your audience and see how they perform and locate where your money is being spent the most. Allowing you to cut out the bad ad spend.

I am not sure how that works with YouTube. Based on what you are saying it sounds like most of his traffic would be organic traffic so I don't think they would be tracking anything that could help them cut ad cost. Unless they are paying to drive real traffic to the yt video to certain audiences.

I'm not a cpa expert, let alone have I made 100 with cpa yet so I can't tell you exactly. Those are just my thoughts. Anyone else feel free to correct me if I'm wrong
