Hello everyone,

I recently wrote a guest post for a big site in order to get a backlink from them.

However, they're saying that they must mention the article as "sponsored".

If it's mentioned as sponsored, will that be seen against the terms of Google as being a paid link? Is it safe to go with a sponsored post mention?

I'm in big need of your wise advice.

Thank you

Google suggests you disclose it when you sponsor a post. It's also advisable to add the nofollow tag to such link.

However, i don't think there's any problem having a sponsored post with follow link when you do it on a small scale.

But if you want to run hundreds or thousands of sponsored posts, you need to negotiate to have the sponsorship not disclosed as much as you can in many of the posts.

There's nothing wrong with a sponsored post... basically, google wants to know which posts are advertorials.

But... "sponsored" means that you paid for it and in your post I see no mention of a payment. Surely, they can add a n0follow attribute but "sponsored" just doesn't make sense.

At the end of the day... it's their site so they dictate the rules.

Google wants you to mention that you sponsored a link. But if the website owner said that your link is "sponsored", it does not make sense since you paid for it.

What if its a gambling or sports betting website? Ive gotten emails from betting sites wanting to post a sponsored post and willing to pay but too scared becuse they always want a do follow and not to mention its a sponsored post, and they usually want to charge you cheap, I read that you should never accept a low offer especailly when they want do follow and no mention of it being a sponsored post because its risky to your ranking if you get caught.

Don't make that rookie's mistake. Don't fall into temptation. Those sites will hurt your site's SEO on the long run.

Keep away from them!

I have a similar situation like the OP.

I regularly get offers of link insertions and cheap guest article posting and they want me not to include the sponsored tag, make it a do-follow backlink. The thing is, if the website is not making enough money via adsense or affiliates, it might be tempting for a webmaster to go for such an offer.

What you guys think, if 5 or 8 such offers are accepted per month then will be too much or should I do not accept anything at all? (or accept only 1 or 2 offers?)

Don't accept at all. If you are looking to create a good long term passive income from a site then say NO to these offers (to all of them).

In order to say YES to something (like success with your site), you must be able to say a 1000 NO to other offers.

It all comes down to today's choices and how they will impact you on the long term.

Thank you for your reply. I will definitely keep in mind. Cheers!

My pleasure. The reason I'm telling you this is because I have gone through the same thing when I was starting out, and I was very low on money, so the temptation is very big then.

But you have to be clear with yourself, you don't want to become that kind of a site and lose focus on your goal.

"Link farms" never last.

I read that its bad but what is the reasoning for why they hurt your site?

notice a lot of times they will ask you and you give them a price and they rpetend like they will send you and article and link but NEVER send it, so im guessing they do this just to gauge what a site is charging in a similar niche and were not really interested to pay for a backlink.
