Question About Links in Forum Signatures for SEO

Sorry in advance if this is a ridiculously silly question, but I'm fairly new to SEO. My question is this, obviously having a ******** link in a blog or forum signature is a good thing, but do multiple posts on the same forum or blog do you any good for SEO purposes. In other words, are you better off joining a ton of forums and leaving a post or two, or is there some benefit to finding a few forums you actually like and posting regularly? I understand that multiple helpful posts will increase your reputation and likely drive some traffic to your site through people clicking on your sig. What I'm curious about, is strictly from an SEO standpoint, are you better off with one post on a thousand different forums/blogs or multiple posts on a handful of boards that you're actually interested in? Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Well if you're dropping forum posts for links, keep in mind that multiple posts on the same forum will be links coming from the same domain (so that value is not as great as if you were getting equivalent links across multiple domains). But if you do things right you can get high PR links if you post in a thread that already has some page rank. Some of the forums with a high PR domain will have threads will have a PR that is a little lower (forum home is PR6, some thread may be ranked a 3 or 4). Hell, even BHW has some threads that have pagerank.

Also keep in mind that Angela and Paul style backlinks just require you to signup to a forum then create a profile with link in signature/bio, there is no posting with their method. Many believe that the efficacy of those links has gone down however, but not enough to forego building the links (I still utilize edu profiles heavily when I come across them). It is just one other type of link, I personally think link diversity is rather important so I make use of a variety of links including forum profile links.
