Q & A - Cold Email Marketing

Let me go through my sending set up that I have right now and go over the ones I've used in the past.

At the beginning I started with Woodpecker and yes I still obtained good results with it but I was disappointed in the software for various reasons and I didn't like the fact that I had to spend roughly $40/month per email address and at that time I was on a budget and I decided to connect just 20 paid Google email accounts through the software. Since I only had 20 email accounts in total I was sending higher volume of cold emails daily which was around 100 per day and my accounts were hitting spam more often and I was having to change my messages around a lot because there was no spin text feature. Also, I was annoyed that I had to split my lists into many smaller lists, in my case 20, in order to upload a single prospect list into a single campaign etc. The process was slow and honestly not user friendly for me. I spent too much time with that software and didn't has as much time on running my business that I wanted to have. I was also warming with Mail Reach at the time too which is also a pay per user set up. So to send from just 20 email accounts the monthly cost was around $1,500/month for the tools plus the Google starter plans which are $6/month per user which came out to $120.

So overall, tools like Woodpecker, Mailshake, Lemlist etc certainly work but I never loved any of them because of the difficulty in running bulk campaigns efficiently. I'm referring to Woodpecker above but I've tried many of the cold email tools that are available on the market...

One day it occurred to me that I could "do something about this" annoyance so I interviewed many software development companies and I decided to invest a small fortune into developing my own software that had all of the features that I wanted a good cold email tool to have. I knew I was going to use cold email marketing for years to come because it's proven to be the most effective lead generation system that I've used. Keep in mind, I have a top ranking agency website in the United States that ranks #1 on Google for some large volume keyword phrases but the lead flow I receive from that website is very low. Cold email marketing (when done correctly) has the ability to flood you with leads!

So my custom cold email marketing software is pretty amazing and I'm super pleased with how it works.

Here are some of the features that I had developed for it :)

- I can connect all of my email accounts into a single campaign. This means that I can have a single campaign running but send from all of my accounts at the same time! I don't have to split my 500,000 prospect list that I've collected over the years and split it into 75 individual files and run 75 separate campaigns anymore! This alone was worth the investment and saves me a ton of time.

- I can upload 100,000 prospects into a single campaign. The other annoyance I had with other cold email marketing and bulk emailing tools was the fact that I couldn't upload large lists of prospects into a single campaign, many of the tools seem to limit the user to anything from 3,000 - 15,000 per campaign which only makes things more complicated and time consuming.

- The good tools on the market allow you to use custom domain tracking for each email address and mine has the same

- The software automatically spaces my messages apart throughout my sending hours so if I've chosen 45 per day per email it will space those 45 sent emails out over my 10 hour sending period automatically to mimic human like sending which is important.

- I can add the unsubscribe link to the signatures so people can easily opt out but in my case I've found that the term "unsubscribe" is actually a spam word so I've reworded my unsubscribe sentence which has worked well.

- Since I can connect all of my roughly 75 email addresses into a single campaign I can easily update the message because I only have to update that in 1 campaign and not 75 campaigns.

- Although I don't use this feature I still wanted it developed. There is a main inbox where I can see all of the incoming messages that all of my accounts have received. I don't have to check my email addresses separately from one another. I actually have my accounts setup so that all 75 email addresses forward to my main "business email" account that I don't use for cold email marketing purposes. ALL responses send to that email account and I respond to all enquiries from that main account only. I don't recommend EVER responding from your cold email accounts because the reputation for those typically won't be as high as your main business email account. You don't want your responses to interested leads ever landing in a junk folder! I learned that lesson the hard way... And I learned that email warming messages can be sent back and forth between my 75 accounts without forwarding those email warming messages to my main business account. That also cleans up my main inbox and keeps the sending set up clean.

- I also use Spintax for my campaigns and my software allows that. This has been a huge blessing because I've found that if you send the exact same cold email message out thousands of times that the message itself seems to get flagged and you'll end up landing in the spam folder even if you're using a good email warming tool! But with Spintax you can cycle through virtually the same message and I'm now able to send virtually the same message for much longer than before this.

- I'll save one of my favorite features for last. My software allows me to input various "messages for warming" I've not been able to find a tool that can do this. They all send out generic emails like how Mail Reach does it or gibberish content like Gwarm. While both of those work and I've found Gmass to be the most affordable option (free) they don't let you choose the warming emails that are being sent out. With my software I actually will copy and paste my "actual cold email message" and paste that into my "warming message" settings. This allows me to send my actual cold email copy out and the software will mark those messages as "not spam" and "move to inbox" and "star as important" I've found this to be most helpful because now my cold email marketing messages don't seem to "burn out" nearly as fast so I'm not having to rewrite my messages every month or so.

There are 2 downsides to my software that I can think of now.

1 - My accounts are only warming between themselves so I still am using Gmass to warm up my accounts because I don't have a large network of other user email addresses.

2 - I developed this for my own company and it doesn't have the ability at this time to allow other users to use it like how Woodpecker etc does.

As I've been typing all of this out though I've been thinking, I'm sure there are a lot of other cold emailers that would like to use my software too. Please let me know if you guys would be interested in using my software for a low monthly fee and if I get enough interested requests I'll add in the ability for multiple users. This would help me out too because if there were a few thousand email addresses connected that would greatly benefit the email warming set up too.

VERY interested in your software!

What type of proxies are you using with your software?

Are you sending through API, SMTP or web automation?

Don't get stuck in the trap of trying to send millions per day. If you send high volumes like that you'll land in the spam folders and the only way to send high volumes like that is through an SMTP like Send Grid or Amazon SES and those tools aren't meant for cold email marketing.

The best way is to use email software that's designed for cold email marketing and send at a human like behavior sending around 45 emails per day from a single account. If you need to send more than 45 emails in a day then create dozens of G Suite email accounts like what I've done and you'll be able to send as many as you need to.

Make sure that you're using the proper cold email sending tools as well as collecting premium data.

Anyone interested to know what tools I'm using at this time?

This is a giveaway right here. Whoever this is, is no mailer.

First, volume:
Email is always about volume, and contrary to what you believe, occasional spurts of low-volume mail are more likely to get you blocked than a steady stream of mail to the tune of about 100K to 1M per hour per IP. When you are sending to TLD domains like hotmail or google, getting through is more about consistency than anything else. You will need to eventually contact them via their postmaster to get your IPs cleared for better delivery volume. Volume matters because the more email you can deliver, the better your revenue will be. Scaling is entirely depending on your ability to push and sustain volume.

Second, relying on google/gmail to send:
This may be a way for a dabbler to test the waters but it is by no means sustainable. No serious mailer is going to be relying on third party resources to deliver mail. You will, at the very least, need to learn how to set up a dedicated server for bulk mailing. It's a bit more complicated than just installing exim or postfix and some gay IP rotation script. Your mailing program has to be able to handle SMTP-time errors, FBL, and bounces. The software that does this properly is not going to be cheap, but you can try using junk like mailwizz or, even worse, interspire. Your best bet is to pay for quality software or commission your own...but you cannot really commission a programmer to make one for you if you yourself don't already have solid experience mailing.

Third, it's not "cold email marketing":
I don't know where this dumb new buzzword came into play but if someone's email is on a mailing list, then they volunteered this info themselves. It didn't just magically get on the list by itself. Could it have been scraped? Could it have been part of a data breach? Sure...but in both instances, the email address was provided to a third party by the one who made the email. The point here is that you "opt in" to receiving email the moment you decide to create an email address - that is the entire point. Don't get bogged down by playing a game according to the rules that are made up by corporations that are hostile to email marketers (they themselves are often mailers and just want less competition).

Domain names are used for the purpose of cold emailing. You can use a professional email like [email protected] and that looks and is more professional than something like [email protected] as an example.

Proxies aren't needed, we're sending from the G Suite email accounts using Google IPs.

As I've mentioned previously, I send a low volume of emails daily from each email account. If you want to send thousands of emails daily you certainly can and that's what I do, but you have to have multiple email accounts.

I've experimented with dozens of cold email platforms and using a G Suite account with an associated email is the best way to go.

Also, one more piece of advice for you guys...

The purpose of cold emailing for many businesses is to simply set up a phone call with the prospect.

Once the phone call is set up that's when the selling takes place.

Cold emailing is highly effective and you shouldn't have to send out 50k daily emails to grow your business.

If you have a good data list and a good message you should be getting multiple positive responses with every 1,000 sent emails. That's been my experience.

What is the easiest offer to get started selling with? Finding digital marketing companies to accept an offer of yours0 and then generating them leads with e-commerce companies seems like the easiest way to start but I'd imagine that niche is highly saturated. What are your opinions. What is the best B2B combination or scenario for someone new starting if that makes sense?

Well that's a good question...

Cold email marketing is really just one piece of the puzzle and the second piece comes down to the actual business model itself which is what you're referring to now.

There are dozens of possibilities with cold email marketing and that's why it's so effective, you can get your message across to targeted prospects.

If you don't have experience in the digital marketing industry but you're savvy with cold email marketing you could certainly provide a lead generation service for any business that needs increased leads.

Don't worry about the saturation level with certain industries, I personally haven't had issues with that.

I personally know people using cold email marketing with great success for all sorts of business models including recruiting, weight loss coaching, content writing, digital marketing (which is what I do). For most businesses, the goal is to get the prospect on a phone call.

I swear this entire thread is a giant sales pitch to presell his software. I suppose an AMA about a software you created is a convenient way to get to those 100 posts.

So if I for an example just have 5 G Suite email accounts to send from and just sending out in total 50 emails per day there is no need for proxies or VPN's?

Interesting thread. We have had some good success doing B2B emails. We are keen to see if theres any other B2B emailers on here interested in earning a CPL? We are a long established UK based lead generation company. We are looking to sign up businesses in England and Wales interested in a tax related service. Massive earnings potential. We pay circa £100k + a month in commissions. DM me for full details.

I have 75 email accounts at this time all under a single G Suite account and I don't use proxies or VPN's of any kind. There is not need for those if you're sending from Google accounts.

I think you're getting confused. Let me explain again.

I'm using a single Google Workspace account but I have all of my domains/emails listed under that account. I do this so that I don't have 75 bills/payment receipts each month, that's a huge hassle...

I personally buy my domains through hover.com and keep them hosted with them.

The Google Workspace account is where I have all of my user accounts set up.

*I do have 75 different domains and each domain has a single email address.

So as an example:

[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]

I'm a one man show as I've mentioned so I just have them listed as [email protected] etc.

I don't recommend using 75 different names all for the same domain name if you're using cold email.

In fact, if you can keep it at 1-2 max per domain that's going to be best.

Does this clear up the confusion?

Okay
One primary domain and 74 secondary domains?
Each domain send around 40 emails per day,
Correct?

Yes, choose the secondary domain option and not the user alias domain option under the domains section.

I've found that anything less than 50 keeps my accounts safe for long-term use. I'm typically around 40-45.
