I have a website and I want to promote it using a blog. Right now I'm setting it up so that the blog sits at blog.(mywebsite).com. The idea is, to have a way to produce more "quality" content from the same domain I want to grow.
Is this better than getting a new domain and starting the blog there (with references to (mywebsite).com)?
Does it make a difference? If yes, I'd like to know what it is.
Thanks.

there's no advantage to putting the blog on a separate domain, to me this is just wasted money because the SEO value will be the same as if it was a subdomain of your main site...

Even better, you could have it on same domain (mywebsite.com/blog) and you'd get to inherit some of the link juice of the root domain, which is how many sites do it anyway...

Thanks for the reply. That was my thought process as well, so I made the decision yesterday and put the blog on my subdomain. I guess having it on the same domain makes sense too, but I already organized the rest of the site using subdoms so want to keep that consistent.

you can still put it under the subfolder,
even if you have some pages that you want to keep their permalink (ex: /flowers), you can create a blog subsection(s) with the url of /blog/flowers

When people type in your brand name does your "blog" subdomain or category pops up in the google serps too?

Hosting your blog on the same domain is considered to be good for boosting SEO and your brand name

I wonder...I not found SEO studies about seo ranking and serp clickrates of these new category TLD domains, unbelieveable.
There is not one second an seo/serp impact when you have a; .global, .online, business, .marketing, .agency domain and many others with commnercial intent value? What I see on domain auction is these new TLD domains are rare there, most of them not get the same high sale prices as com/net/co domains.

The one problem with pillar content on a "blog" or "guide" category on your website is, it not has commercial value, the same is for new TLD .blog domains. Google is listing now websites with commercial value high in the serps.

Using a subdomain will not make any difference but creating topically organized content will help.
