If you've been on this website for more than a day, you've probably seen the spam that happens between 7pm and 3am (Pacific Time). You know what spam I'm talking about, the ""skin cream" spam, or the "muscle toner" spam created by bots.

Efforts have been made to cut back on this spam by prohibiting new accounts from posting live links in threads, but I have another proposition to supplement this: We prohibit accounts with 0 posts from using most of the terms below.
Code:
WWW
COM
HTTP
Love Marriage
Black Magic
HTTPS
SKIN Cream
MUSCLE
EXERCISE
MAGIC
MAGICK
CO
WEBCAM
CAMWHORE
E-WHORE
Love Spell
Account for rent
Marriage Help
This character: 的
Louis Vuitton
The bots that post these spam threads almost always spam the exact same ad copy in 2-20 threads before disappearing. However, with this filter in place, legitimate new members are less likely to notice the new filter while the bots are blocked from posting.

Edit: List reduced to 19 terms.

I agree there should be a filter but some of the words in there are unnecessary. Maybe a member wants to buy a graphic but the word graphic is filtered...

Yeah, I mentioned in the main post that some of the words were generic because I copied a majority of that list from a TLD website. I'll look into going through that list and removing the generic words, although it was more for the sake of an example.

i agree with this, could be difficult choosing the word for the filter though, like accountant who has a problem with his apple phone in his apartment only. Apple, accountant and apartment are on the list

Sounds like a good idea to me.

I'm in the process of cleaning up that list. I may just reduce it to a handful of key terms.

Some words that should be banned 100%: "black magic" "marriage help" "account for rent"

I've reduced the list to 13 terms for now.
Wouldn't that affect @pewep?

Seriously, there are some that we ban every day on that list so I appreciate your work there, @Zwielicht, as do the other Mods I am sure.
Oh no, we can't censor Pewep!

Well, hypothetically if this filter became a reality, @pewep would all right assuming his post count didn't get rolled back to 0. Even then, all he would have to do is make 1 post to post about the magical benefits of celibacy.

What about Hack, Hacking and Hacker
Maybe. There are some new members who join thinking this is a hacking forum, but that's more of a mistake of their part rather than deliberate spam.

What about Hack, Hacking and Hacker

Life hack: Burn fossil fuel in your living room to save on heating costs.

Guys that do hacking are deplorable.

I saw this hacker the other day on the freeway and flipped him the bird.

Maybe those would not be good to limit.

i agree , but why new accounts allowed to open new threads outside the introduction section ?! , any account should be 20+ posts 2+ weeks age to open new threads outside introduction section .......

I think that's a bit too much. Sure, some new members (okay, a lot of them) create threads with questions that could've been answered by using Google, but it's best not to punish every new member for the mistakes of the others.

most of the scam/spam threads I'm reporting daily .... created with accounts with less than 20 posts and less than 1 week age ..., if new member really want to learn IM here , he/she could post 20 useful posts and wait few days ....

It's certainly an option, although the reason I brought up avoiding adding too many restrictions to new members is because of what happened when the PM post count was bumped up from 15 posts to 50. New members with 3 day old accounts were posting threads left and right asking how to PM, when they can PM, and why they can't PM.
