Posting More or Less Times a Day?

I think I read here or on Reddit that a few people had mentioned that IG shadowbans you or decreases your engagement/growth if you post "a lot." Some people have suggested 3x a day is now the "optimal" number, but one guy even said that his growth accelerated by cutting things down to 1 post a day!

We run a few pages and post 7x a day on one (that's the max) and two others where we post 5x a day. Since the send of Sept - beginning of Oct, follower growth and likes on those 3 pages have started to drop progressively to less than 50% of the previous steady-state growth. We do not use any hashtags on those pages, so I've been wondering if IG is indeed taking action for more "frequent" posting.

Not sure. Thoughts anyone?

Instagram will only decrease your engagement typically if people frequently scroll by your content without engaging with it. So if you post "a lot", and your followers don't engage with your content, then Instagram will limit your reach. If you post "a lot" and your followers engage with it, then your reach could be expanded.

It depends on the content you promote. Instagram doesn't want spammers on their platform, they only want highly-engaging content that keeps users on the platform longer. The most users engage with content = the longer they're on the platform.

Yes, I know that, but that's not the reason here. First of all these pages are not brand new and the shift that I am talking about occurred all of the sudden without any modification of the posting strategies on the pages. These pages are used to post viral content relating to their niche.

I've noticed if I post more frequently I get less engagements on avg. but I reach waayy more people in my stats. So it varies on what you want

I've tried cutting back to posting 1 time every 24-72+ hours , and it's almost doubled my engagement on average posts, but I reach alot less people.

My goal is to get max engagement for the times I start to post alot, so people see my page as authentic when they come across it while I just delete inactive posts (when I post alot) to maintain a nice look to send people to my offers. Rather than 2k likes on one post, and 750 likes on the next post, etc.
 
More post, less engagement!!

You might not get Shadow banned but Learn to give your followers time.

Yes, but in addition to just the total people that you reach, what is the % of reach outside of your follower base (what basically determines your follower growth) when you post more vs less?

I'd assume alot because if I post frequently multiple times daily, I'll reach more people than who follow me
 
Neither. Randomise. Don’t overthink it. That’s how you get stuck with a bot fingerprint.
 
Less is more.

I don't think there is any sense in posting more than 3 times a day, the less post you have the less your followers have to engage with.
 
Its better to post 1-2 times a day during peak hours for your location. For instance if you are New York then schedule your posts during lunch hours on M-F.

What you're mentioning may sound "logical," but it doesn't mean the algorithm works that way. In the past, the more we posted, the more we grew. The algo never punished you for posting more frequently.

At the end of the day, no one understands the algo Its always changing. But you really have to test what works for your. Creating post in times that correspond to your followers timezone, is a good basic. But finding what hours are best to post is the key IMO. with a solid month of testing you can see what hours yield the best engagement for you.

For me its usually 2-4 post a week.

Damn, that's crazy, 2-4 posts a week and you grow at all?

I think that in general, most pages will grow optimally between 1 and 5 posts a day, but it's Instagram's purposeful unpredictability that are wrecking havoc with businesses. We use different analytic tools and have used active post times for years. The problems I'm mentioning are not related to that.

Yes, well my methods for growing are probably different then yours. The accounts are on strict F/U schedules. Manual and automated have shoutouts, and M/S on them. So I don't rely on getting growth from just posting.
 
Actually, I think, that something was changed, cause it's not the first time I hear about this issue.
If the quality of your content was not changed, then maybe there were some changes on IG side. I think it's really possible.
