I want to share with you my experience with Pinterest campaign and its impact on Gooogle search results. The main of the campaign was to rank for the ?lingerie wholesale? query.

Pinterest was supposed to be one of the parts of our inbound marketing strategy. Just another social media channel where we could promote our partners site. I decided to follow the latest trends. Reading, watching and analyzing all given advices about new directions of Google indexing methods and how everything changes, I understood that social media campaigns might be double-edged sword. On the one hand you acquire new customers in social media channel itself and on the other they might have an influence on SERP especially in Google.
To be honest I?ve never liked the methods offered by many SEO agencies ? they seemed to me a kind of cheating. I wanted to create something important and strong enough to have a real impact on SERP. So I decided to do SEO for our sites starting from social media. Of course I knew it was going to be hard task.

At the beginning of March while started serious Piterest campaign I checked what results Google displays for our company name. Our Pinterst account was on the 4th position. At that moment I realized that Pinterst may have huge impact on Google and could be used as a great method for SEO purposes.
Ceteris Paribus ? ?with other things the same?
When we want to verify any thesis or check if something simply works we need to remember that all other things should be equal or held constant. So I have created kind of isolation from other sources that may affect our results in Google and was focused on Pinterest only. No link building or any other SEO methods. Just me, the site, Pinterest and a hard work.

    The Results

At the beginning of March the site was out of first 20 pages before the Pinterest?s campaign started. After 2 weeks time it jumped onto the 112th position. But it was just the beginning.
After 5 months of the Pinterest?s campaign the site reached first top 2 positions in many countries around the world (including USA, Germany, Greece, Poland, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Brazil, France, Russia, Argentina, India, Malaysia, United Arab Emirates etc.).
We checked results in 68 different countries all over the world. We had the following positions in Google:
    1st position ? 3 countries
    2nd position ? 49 countries
    3rd position ? 12 countries

There is another huge advantage of my Pinterest?s campaign. Google search engine indexed our site and our Pinterest?s boards on the top of results for many others keywords associated with our lingerie wholesale offer and brands which products we sell.

If you have any questions feel free to ask. There is also available the documentation of the results, publications in media of and a book published, however I'm not sure if I can put any link here.

    Hi. Interesting reading, Jackens.

Out of curiosity - what did your Pinterest project involve? Pinterest is one form of SM that I'm reading up on and I'm curious as to what you did (generally, of course - I'm not after all your secrets!). Also, I'd love to read your documentation so if you'd like to PM me...

    Cheers

    M.

I shouldn't admit it here ;) but it's been completely legal campaign - I mean no blackhat techniques involved. The most important is content of course. In Pinterest's case great photos is a must. This was the campaign for a lingerie wholesale site, so there were thousands of beautiful lingerie photos available. It really started after we received an invitation to one of the biggest lingerie group boards. It always gives a possibility to share pins with a larger audience.
It is also important to create a strong account - to keep good ratio of followers to following and using keywords in pins descriptions, names of boards or account.
    I PM you my publications.

In my view, Google equally valued fb and pinterest as fb passes social signals is proved by many of experts.

Congrats on the great success! I'm starting to see success in pinterest, and I know there's a lot of potential there.
I have a couple questions I hope you can answer:
    1) Did you find pinning at particular times were more effective than others?
    2) How many items do you recall you pinned per day?

    Thanks!

    1. The best time to pin is the time when other pinners use Pinterest. The higher chance is than others would see photos you just added and repin or like them.
    2. It is not about quantity but you have to pin regularly - it should be your daily habit. We are Pinterest Marketing Agency and we don't use any tools, everything was done "manually". I can't say if it matters or not - I mean the results of your campaign if you use some blackhat techniques. But it is possible that Pinterest (as advanced and developed system) may be able to detect this kind of actions. However, it is just my thought.

Thanks for the response. As per my first question, I meant did you find that there was a specific time that your pins were repinned more often than others? For example, did you find that 9 am EST was better than 11 am? If you don't want to answer you don't have to.

9 AM EST is much too early to pin.
9 PM would be much better, it's pretty much the peak time for pinterest activity.

Did you only pin stuff that linked to your site or did you pin stuff that linked to other sites as well?

I know I don't have to :) - I don't mind answering. It depends where you are from. I'm in Europe, so the best time to pin in US is always when I sleep. Last pins we add are about midnight. The busiest time (the most photos repined) are about 2-7 AM my time - so it should be 7-12 PM EST. First pins in the morning (if it is 8AM) are also repined. So I guess it's about 1-3 AM in US when people stop pinning - which is rather obvious.

I think that best strategy for Pinterest (or any social media) is "selfish" strategy. If you want to create really strong account (for search engines as well) you have to be kind of authority and influencer that others will follow. In the campaign described in this post - we have never pined, repined or liked other photos than our customer ones and they come from the customer site only.
Of course this is difficult strategy, because your content (pins) need to be very attractive themselves to attract other pinners attention. That's why I don't think that Pinterest is for every kind of business. Of course you can create many other boards not related to your offer to attract pinners. I just don't like this idea as other ideas of many Pinterest advisers and bloggers. They always suggest to repin, like other pinners stuff or follow them and hope they will do the same back.

I've seen a lot of Pinterest pages ranking well after the recent algo update. I don't think there is much strategy involved as I have seen almost empty pages ranking just based on the titles.

This article is not about Pinterest pages ranking well, but about site ranking well for the "lingerie wholesale" query thanks to Pinterest campaign. Beside you are talking about very niche keywords I guess.

I for some reasons never think of Pintrest as being a useful site to help rank. After reading this, I do now.
