No matter what I try, Link Extractor will not save any information to where it says it has. I run through my links, checking external domains, it has found 100+ links but it does not output to the LinkExtractorData folder at all. Even if I click "Show save folder" it does nothing.

Hey loopline - I have a question.

I recently paid for the premium plug in - article scraper and its great.

However i wonder if in future we could improve it by allowing the user to scrape articles from any site they choose. For example if i wanted articles from BBC website i could enter a category link and the scraper would take all those articles from that category.

Sure that makes sense. I don't know if they will add that option or not. I think at one point they had said they would consider it. I know it would take a lot of rewriting of the plugin. But perhaps Sweetfunny/Softtouch will add it at some point.

Can ScrapeBox yield the same info as DomainHunterGatherer for web2.0 sites? Aka, return a list of expired/available web2.0s based off a list of search keywords, along with their authority metrics?
I think i saw something like this, but it wasn't exactly clear (at least, to me).

I haven't used the program you mentioned, but you can get a list of expired web 2.0s from a list of keywords by using the vanity name checker addon. Then you can take the available ones and run them thru the page authority addon and get the authority metrics. So its a 2 part step, but yes it can be done.

Perhaps the folder does not have write permissions, so the file can not be saved.

Make sure it has write permissions or perhaps just download a fresh copy of Scrapebox and run it from a folder on your desktop or in your documents folder.

Thanks Loopline, somehow I got it working. I had already checked permissions on the folder but didn't help. I am leaving it as it is until I have finished my new extraction which appears to be saving properly!

ScrapeBox v2.0.0.50 Released

  • Addon: Outbound Link Checker fixed
  • Fixed a bug in encoding of scrapebox.ini
  • Addon: Added internal connection timeout to Link Extractor
  • Plugins: Added "Append" checkbox to Export Harvester Urls
  • Plugins: Added "Append to file" checkbox to Test Proxies
  • Plugins: Fixed Google Engine in RankTracker
  • Addon: Fixed Alive Checker
  • Added YouTube Video and Audio Grabber
  • Plugin: Added to RankTracker "Select all", "Deselect all" and "Invert selection" to the keyword grid popup menu
  • Plugin: Added abort button to RankTracker and enabled multiple updates/day

Mostly plugin and addon updates, but ScrapeBox received a fairly major new feature which is a YouTube Grabber available from the Grab/Check button on the harvester.

It allows you to scrape a lot of information about video's such as the Title, Author, Duration, Viewcount, Likes, Dislikes, Published Date, Genre of the video and the Video and Audio quality. All this data can be exported to an xlsx file. You can also filter video's based on keywords in the title, author or by resolution.

Also it can download video's multi-threaded, and download just the audio tracks of videos. On the settings screen you can drag/drop the video quality and audio quality to set your preferred download type.

It's recommended you enter your download speed (You can check this on SpeedTest.net) and then auto calculate the chunked size. This just optimizes the download for performance based on your connection.

Regarding finding expired web20 sites. As i understand it, the Vanity Checker takes a specific list of keywords, and checks for sites with those keywords in the domain name.
However, what if i just want to find expired web20 sites that were "related" to a keyword (say, a list of tumbler sites that were all about the topic of "camping" when they used to exist, but did not necessarily contain the word "camping" in the domain name)? How do i find those sites, so that i can then pre-populate them into the Vanity Checker?

Two possible ways, one is use the Keyword Scraper http://www.scrapebox.com/keyword-scraper which uses Google Suggest and a dozen other suggest services to return lists of related keywords. Then use the keyword list you built in the Vanity Name Checker.

Or the Vanity Name Checker can also check Web 2.0 URL's directly and not just keywords, so you can harvest a list of Web 2.0 URL's related to your keywords using the search engine harvester.

thank you very much for the response (both sweetfunny and loop). i really don't want to be a pest, but i'm still trying to understand. Lets say there was a tumbler site named "andrewsworld tumbler" (i just picked a random url)...but imagine if that site was actually about "camping". There is nothing in the title that a keyword scraper would connect to our camping search (even if we let the keyword scraper go many levels deep).

So i guess i'm asking, is the only way to find expired web20's if they have the keyword in the domain name? Or, will the search engine (google) keyword suggestion tool eventually suggest "andrewsworld" as a keyword because the search engine will recognize the old andrewsworld site was about camping?

I dont know if this happens only with my SB Rank Tracker plugin but it dowsnt update the date. Tried several times and several keyword ans still nothing. As I can see the text files in Scrapebox\Plugins\RankTracker\Projects\MyNiche.sbprj\googledata are edited and up to date but rank Tracker is showing a date from 2 days ago

yep, same issue with last version.

i think i got it. I suspect it makes the most sense to use the search engine harvester to find web20 sites about a topic (so, lets say google for "tumblr" sites about "camping") and then check all the returning urls in the vanity checker for
a) availabilty
b) SEO metrics

So, i think my final question. Will the search engine harvester find web20 sites that no longer exist? How does that work? I assume the only way this would work is that google (and other search engines) has cached an old tumblr site that no longer exists...will google still return that site, even though it would be a dead link?

Just use a date search and search for urls time periods from the past. Engines will generally not kick it out of an index immediately when it goes down, but if its down on subsequent crawls it will get kicked at a point, but you can set a date for like 2013 if you want, or whatever, and then scrape from that. Just figure out the date in the browser and then copy the date segment and add it to the string in the engine string under harvester engine configuration (under settings) and then save it as a new engine.

Your looking for this segment
&tbs=cdr%3A1%2Ccd_min%3A9%2F1%2F2015%2Ccd_max%3A9%2F4%2F2015

something like that, the &tbs - you can generate that by using the search tools on google.com in a browser and then click on the anytime link and custom range and input the range and it will put the above in the url box when the page loads.

Hi,

Could you make 'Google Image Grabber Addon' support proxy?!

thank you.

The Google Image grabber addon support proxies, but you need to enable them in ScrapeBox (by checking the checkbox "Use proxies").

Yes , i found it. thank you.

I hope OP can do 'Google Video Grabber Addon'

Since the list of repetitive steps to find expired web2.0 sites is below, do you think you could make the process into a single addon?

An "Expired Web2.0 Addon" should only require the user to
a) supply a list of initial keywords (and how many levels deep for scrapebox to go to find more related keywords)
b) tick off boxes for each platform they were interested in (tumblr, blogspot, wix, webs, wordpress, ect...)
c) provide a list of Moz API ID/key pairs.

Then it would do the following steps which are repetitive, all by itself.

1) scrape for deeper list of keywords related to user input keyword using a list of keyword harvesting techniques
2) harvest 2.0 sites (tumblr, blogspot, wix, webs, wordpress, ect...) related to keywords from step #1 (removing dupes)
3) check each returned site for availability (first pass fast, 2nd pass slower on those that appear to be expired)
4) check each available site for seo metrics from moz
5) present list of available 2.0 sites with seo metrics

step 6 can't be automated i don't think...and that is checking the backlink profiles of the old sites to see if they are good or spammy.

After watching youtube videos of people explaining how to do this, it seems pretty clear that these steps should be packaged up into a single addon, since there is so much repetition type work for the user, but the only real input required from the user was the initial keyword list seed, and the types of web2.0 sites they are looking for.

While its true that scrapebox has the ability to do each of the above steps one at a time via various addons, this seems like a list of tasks that is just begging to be packaged up as an independent addon.
Since scrapebox already has the ability to do each individual step via various methods, i imagine a lot of the code modules can be re-used to create this addon.
