This is such a great product. Can't say enough about how much this rocks. I do have a feature request though. . .

Feature Request
Scrape the backlinks of the top 10 sites in google for your particular keyword. Then somehow, it would be great if you could filter out blogs and forums and make separate lists of those. . Imagine adding a link to your site on every blog or forum that links to the top ten in your keyword. . .

Thanks again SF for a great product.

Is this a bug?
I had a list of 9155 urls. Unique domains. I checked pagerank and saved urls with pagerank to txt. Then I opened the txt-file and saw that the file only contains 9141 urls. Some lost?

Then I posted some comments and broke the run after 1000 successful posts. I saved the successful ones in a file and the unsuccessful ones in another.

The stat said:
Success:1020
Failed:3367
List Status:4387/9141 (By the way the same number of lines as in the sourceurlfile)

I then opened the 2 files and found 1020 lines successful and 8142 unsuccessful. Which means the urls that havent tried are in the unsuccessful list too. Strange is only that 8142+1020 is 9162. Again another number...

Ive been seeing these types of alerts as well. I normally see them when Im checking my links after I finish commenting. The question is... Should I move Scrapebox to a dedicated PC so if I do get a virus it doesnt bring down my main PC? Id rather loose a PC that is just used for scrapbox so the rebuild is less painful. Any thoughts?????

Has anyone caught a virus while running scrapebox? If so when do you think you got it? (Scraping/ Commenting/link checking/etc)?

So scrapebox contains virus!!!!

So scrapebox contains virus!!!!

You should think before you post.
ScrapeBox does of course not contain a virus, but the website you are accessing might contain malware. This has nothing to do with ScrapeBox. You would get the same warning when you try to access the website with firefox, IE, or any other browser.

So scrapebox contains virus!!!!

Of course not. But scrapebox cant control which websites you open while using scrapebox. So when you scrape a website with a virus that explains your alert.
I dont know exactly but the chance is good that there isnt even a risk of getting infected from this sites by using scrapebox. Maybe with the manual posting mode.

Out of 1020 successful WP-Posts I dont have one single entry found? Is that Akismet? I used proxies, three different names and 2 urls.

If its akismet is there a way around by using another url that is forwarded via 301 to my real targetpage?

Oh but there should be something. I thought that the server may have virus due to any hacking or other issue.

v1.12.2 Uploaded

  • Ability to name ScrapeBox instances.
  • scrapebox.ini is backed up in case of deletion.
  • Filtering in Comment Poster for bad filetypes (.pdf, .MP3, .Avi etc)
  • Also several other enhancements.

Instance name is on the title bar:
23vzygo.png

And in all Tooltips:
30tna5s.png

It's also saved in your scrapebox.ini file so your instances will keep their names.

Depending on the niche you're scraping/commenting in, you are going to run into some attack sites with this or any other tool that hits hundreds or thousands of sites.

ScrapeBox has some built-in safety features to try to catch crapware. But, as with ANYTHING you're doing online, you need a solid firewall, anti virus, and anti malware set of tools. It's multiple lines of defence - ScrapeBox tries to catch things; then your personal security net should catch the rest.

If you're uber-paranoid like me, and/or if you are commenting in some heavily-infested waters (mp3's, software - scrapes for software niches often result in sites about cracks and keygens, or porn come to mind), you need to take appropriate precautions. Think Comodo + Kaspersky + MalwareBytes AntiMalware. Plus a properly secured router. Plus a virtual machine for running all the crap you download from the Downloads sub-forum lol.

If you do find an attack site's URL while using ScrapeBox, send it into ScrapeBox support so it can be added to the communal blacklist.

If its akismet is there a way around by using another url that is forwarded via 301 to my real targetpage?

It's probably a mix of factors:

1) yes, akismet - at least partially; were your comments heavily spun/tokenized? I try to have at least a 1:100 ratio of comments:targets, with each comment HEAVILY tokenized
2) many WP blogs do not auto-approve comments, so if you're checking for backlinks via SB shortly after the commenting run, you won't find many (or any)
3) I'd suggest using more names and emails in the future - that name/email generator can give you a ton, and just three names on 1020 posts is gonna look spammy

I'm still trying to learn more about akismet's mechanisms myself, if anyone has some info please contact me.

Here's a snippet of what I mean when I say heavily tokenized:

It?s {getting|growing|becoming} {quite|rather} {boring|dull|tiring|pedestrian|tiresome} for him to have to {keep|carry on|continue} {telling|stating to|saying to}...

Make sure the comment combos will end up being reasonably decent grammar (I'm going to start shooting people who post comments that start off with "Comfortably, this irrefutable majestic is conceived, assured...") but spin the holy hell out of your comments.

A 301 will protect your real targetpage or money site, but not get you any higher approval rate on the parasite URL.

gregs.

I ran a search through this post but could not find anything, so forgive me if this has already been discussed.

If I enable Hotspot Shield, will Scrapebox run through the proxy that is assigned by them or is it working outside of that proxy?

Ii feel like I know the answer to that already since it seems that Scrapebox is not running through my browser, right? But just wanted to know for sure.

Thanks.

Hello guys , I need little advice , I have 70% success rate with Decaptcha and free proxies only, Now I want to increase it with proxie bonanza
wich package I should pick in this page? (except 260 IPs)
Code:
http://proxybonanza.com/signup/special_offer

Damn that's actually a pretty good success rate for the free proxies. Nice.

If you're set on buying some PB proxies, I'd suggest that 30 IP package. You might end up having to add bandwidth to the 10GB (or not - just add in the free proxies when you're commenting if you hit your monthly quota), personally I like having a lot of IP's available.

gregs.

are these shared proxies?

@gregstereo

I tested again some minutes ago and it found 4 entries. So can it really be that all of these blogs are manual approved? I didnt thought out of 1000 this would be possible.
So if there are now 4 links found that hopefully means the url isnt blocked by akismet. So maybe these blogowners dont use akismet or choose that I didnt spam or its not blocked.

I use the name as place for my anchortext because I think most blogowners wont look at the name of the writer but will find links in the comment fast. Especially when the anchortext doesnt match.

I had the comment spun 2-3-2 so it would be 18 versions I think. Plus different names, emails(1000) and so on hopefully enough.

>A 301 will protect your real targetpage or money site, but not get you any higher approval rate on the parasite URL.

Why not? Because its always the same? Then you didnt get my thought. I meant when this url is blocked I could use 301 because it give the linkjuice, anchorjuice and so on to the targetsite. And I could use 10 or 100 different domains for that. www domain com /first.php, www domain 2 com / route.php and so on. That way spinning the targeturl.
Possible?
By the way... is akismet banning only urls or domains as a whole? If banning domains I think all free hostingsites where user can host a free website would be still blocked and these users couldnt comment right?

Accurate mode with BlogEngne just blasts through the comments. The pop up doesn't open it acts as if it's a WP comment submission. I tried to post comments in the normal BlogEngine mode and it works fine.

V1.12.2 - Newest Update

I think Im caught at akismet. I found a blog where the owner stated people can test if they are blocked when the comment arent appearing instantly. My comment didnt.

I have read a little bit. I found the rule not to post very short comments. And I found that a akismetemployer said you shouldnt use keywords in the name. So a commenter was blocked instantly for using a name "Stephen SEO" or something.
I presume having a link, maybe hidden in commentarea will be a redlight too. Because it could be simply identified.

Here
Code:
http://blog.akismet.com/2009/04/28/eliminating-spam-is-good-seo/
at the official blog they wrote: "And spammers have recently learned to post several comments over time, the first of which contains no link or obvious clue. (We call these precursor spams)." I interprete it this way that akismet can be tricked that way. Otherwise they wouldn say a word about.

So is it possible to trick akismet this way? :

Comment without urls. I dont know how many posts needs to go through to make akismet less suspicious.
Then comment normally but use 10 or more different domainnames. Let them point to different pages with differen content. If all comments are live simply 301 the links to the real target.

Dont know if that would work.

I think my error was to first use comments with a link in comment. With anchortext and style="cursor:default" and so on. If I would code akismet that would be a red sign for me.

It's very possible that a lot of them are manual approve. I think that's the default in WordPress. And it takes a bit of time even with auto approve for the comment to get published and found.

So if there are now 4 links found that hopefully means the url isnt blocked by akismet. So maybe these blogowners dont use akismet or choose that I didnt spam or its not blocked.

Hopefully. Like I said, I'm still trying to learn more about @kismet. The blog admin has to enable it and enter their WP key, so that's nice.

In my experience, some admins approve blindly, some approve after reviewing, some will even try to send you a response about your comment, and a few will wish you herpes and a premature death. Though as I've gotten more experience with the tool, I've been getting a lot more "Thanks for your comment on my blog!" than "Die spammer die!" It's been well over a month since I got any hatemail.

I had the comment spun 2-3-2 so it would be 18 versions I think. Plus different names, emails(1000) and so on hopefully enough.

Cool, I must have misunderstood what you said about # of names and emails - the more the merrier. And spin spin spin.

Ah gotcha - that would be worth a shot, I think it would work. 301 does pass the juice.

By the way... is akismet banning only urls or domains as a whole? If banning domains I think all free hostingsites where user can host a free website would be still blocked and these users couldnt comment right?

That is one of a number of questions I have about @kismet. Someone else posted here on BHW that they will ban based on "either IP or URL", so I'm still wondering about what level(s) they ban at. And how long bans last. And if there are any methods to get unbanned (aside from contacting @kismet, which I think would be a waste of time at best).

Any @kismet experts in the house?

@greg

Before your answer I wrote another post with possible workaround for akismet. What you think of it?

As for unbanning. Akismet is saying if enough webmasters are unbanning you should get unbanned. But they state too that very few webmaster say thats not spam. That would mean you cant go out this way because of lazy webmaster. And even the one that contacted webmaster where they posted nonspammy werent let out of jail.

Otherwise... if this is a possible way... here at bhw are enough people with blogfarms. Its maybe worth a try to go this way:

Post comments for your blocked site on all blogs. The blogs should have akismet. The comments are marked as spam. Then the farmowner sets that all comments arent spam. Must be automatically somehow. And maybe the domain is unbanned then at akismet.
If that works it could be even a paid service. Pay me money to get your domainname unbanned... or something... :)

Yep, I saw your other msg after posting mine. Good info, thanks. Interesting idea - I _think_ the default in WP is to moderate the first comment by a given commenter, but then subsequent comments by the same author get auto approved. So, the concept of commenting without backlinks intentionally, then commenting a few days later to the same sites with backlinks...hmmmm, might be worth a spin....

And I've been thinking along very similar lines to what you wrote above about getting messages marked as not spam to get back in the good graces of aksmet. Been looking at that for a few days, actually. Very interesting concept....

I need to get some sleep now, and I've got some good material to sleep on....I'll ping you in the next day or so, would like to compare notes and chat about this a bit more.

peace,
gregs.
