[Penguin Update] Stop Using Exact Match Domain Names

I agree with a lot of the other posters, blanket statements regarding EMD and penalties are nonsense. Overall, Google is trying to penalize spammy links that it determines by a number of factors and its approach is more subtle than that.

Right now I have a little experiment going on an age Apple branded EMD site. Just before Panda I sent out a very spammy SB blast with good comments, spinning and quality IP addresses. It remained on the second page but once Panda hit it started to rise to the first page. Since then I have did nothing with the site waiting for my big fall campaign. To my amusement I have watched it go up and down in the SERPS on its own as the each Google update hits. Just recently it fell to the second page and I said okay that makes sense.

Today it was back on the first page in the sixth slot. Go figure!

OP hasn't follow his claim, this is wrong information and people who are reading the headlines may be confused.
 
If that's true than more power to us - there's a lots of aged domains with the crappy names available for purchase.
 
I don't think its because its EMD.

I think penguin as a whole is ranking sites based on the authority they have.

A lot of EMD's are spam but alot of them are outstanding.

If your website has authority it will rank without or with a EMD
 
Misinformation. They're not gonna penalize you just based on the fact that you have an EMD. Just work on building sites with strong content and high quality backlinks and it won't matter.
 
when I search for computer history an EMD still comes at number 2 in page 1.
 
If your website has relevant and valuable content, it'll rank whether you have EMD or not. It really depends on how you're building the backlinks too.
 
Dude, EMDs are fine. The main thing is anchor texts. When you vary them and try to use the exact same emd anchor, you will get good results. All of my sites still rank well.

The main EMDs that would have been affected would have been done so by PANDA not PENGUIN the last panda update around the 24th (its on Googles twitter) of last month and affects the type of site commonly set up as an EMD.

Basic simple "designless" theme ads above the fold and content.

Ads all over the main pages etc.

My EMDs are all fine. I have one EMD setup with no content, no ads and an empty wordpress theme and it ranks #2 for a good keyword.
 
I don't think so , If we think other way around every thing is an exact match , If we type amazon in google search it will give the result of amazon.c0m , even though it is a branded domain name it is exact match
 
There's nothing wrong with true EMD's. Avoid anything with a hyphen.
 
90% of the EMD are ranking well for me.I think ranking has nothing to do with the domain name.All you need is a good backlinking and good content in your site.
 
I am beating pengiun, just changing to different anchor text.
 
For example if i have 10 backlinks from a certain domain, each on a differente page, i use 2 for my main keyword, 2 for secondary keyword, and the the rest (6) with related keywords, i have had excellent results!
