PayPal Tax ID number process

Hello,

I wanted to know, does anyone have more insight on trying to figure out how to get approved threw a SSN/ITIN/EIN in PayPal?

Well, i sell on eBay, have been selling since April 10 of this year. It' has been an up and down roller coaster with my JV Buddy, overall we have made around $9,000 in sales these past months since starting.

What i'm starting to worry about is that once i reach the 200 transaction and $20,000 money limit, i know PayPal is going to ask for a SSN number or ITIN OR EIN number.

The problem is though, that i do not have any of these types of documents.
And to make things even more complicated, I made my eBay & PayPal Business account with my middle name first instead of my first name.
Also the address i added to eBay/PayPal is not currently where i reside at as well BUT it is a real address where a family member currently lives at.

My accounts are from 2014, the year in which i created them. I was usually thinking, maybe that's why i have been able to sell for a while till now and have not had any major problems yet.

I want advice on this matter as well, like if someone can give me pointers on what to do next as i'm trying to make this long term with my JV Buddy and he has been doing his part in providing me with Products to sell.

Any help would be appreciated!

Unless you're a US citizen or have the right to work in the US, you cannot get a SSN.

An ITIN requires the IRS to verify who you are, so you need to send them your passport or two forms of identification. You also need a reason for applying for the ITIN, which in most cases is because you're filing a tax return.

An EIN is straight forward to get over the phone (for foreign individuals/businesses). You just need to call +1 267-941-1099 between 9:00am and 11:00pm (EST) Mon-Fri. You will be asked some basic questions and they will provide you with the EIN straight away.

I'm not sure what you do about the name mismatch.

Hey, thank you very much for your reply as this has been bugging me for some time now.

I wanted to know though, as far as i can tell, the EIN option seems like it is for my case but don't i need to be in the U.S for that also?

Look from Google: "The Employer Identification Number (EIN), also known as the Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN) or the Federal Tax Identification Number, is a uniquenine-digit number assigned by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to business entities operating in the United States for the purposes of identification."

What would that do for my case as i'm not currently in the U.S? Since technically you did say "foreign". And thank you for the information as it's quite difficult to understand these things from Google alone.

The EIN is used to identify your business and you normally use, when requested, to fill in a form to show you're not subject to US withholding tax.

Have you considered spreading the sales over multiple paypal accounts? That's what a lot of people do.

Also your current set up makes using a SSN difficult since the info won't match your SSN info. Go to the IRS site and apply for an EIN, you can either call in or do it online. Once you have the EIN set up you'll need to associate it with a business address (USing a UPS box is recommended) that can be your business address. Upload the EIN and correct address on PayPal and you'll be good to go.

Seriously, this has been bugging me for quite some time now, and it's the only thing in my way to potentially making unlimited money off my eBay until eBay itself gets a new Payment system.

@Sephrata I was talking with my brother and he contacted someone that could potentially help me with a Tax ID but said i needed a Business Licence as well.
I have googled it and it seems really confusing as some articles suggested that it's a 50/50 thing.
Might you know something about this?

Seems like I have finally been hit with the 20k limit and now PayPal wants either an SSN, ITIN or EIN and now I'm in the process of getting an EIN for a very good price thanks to some help.

I will update this thread and give me thoughts after if it has worked or not.

I'm glad you were able to get some insight OP. I have a similar situation. PP is asking for my documents, along with my actual name. Kinda stuck in between giving them my real info or the info of name on the account. Much luck to you and your work!
