I am sorry but it sounds like a $5k fraud, difficult to believe you sold ebooks for this value to a single buyer. You should have used your sister's paypal wisely to survive online with the most widely used payment system. I doubt you will be able to hold your current account for too long. They might as well hire a debt collector to pursue your sister's husband.

PP did not do anything; the government went after the guy.

Not at all... the crime is against the laws of the United States... he did whatever and was found out, the Government convened a Grand Jury, indicted him and convicted him.
He is a young guy and will recover from his actions although he has some serious restrictions on him for the rest of his life.
Rest assured, PP did nothing because they do not want the publicity that they can be compromised as that would dilute trust (what little we trust them) and hurt their business.

Most likely they'll just link your Indian PP account. Most of their stuff is automated until they find the money can't be recovered. Then a real human puts eyeballs and logic to the problem and if you logged in from the same IP you have about a 99% they'll link the accounts once they find out. Expect your Indian account to be toast before long.
That's the chance you took when you withdrew the $5k and spent it. You could have just returned it and protected your local account. Now you'll probably not have a real account again. Good luck with fake accounts and doing business.

They'll link accounts and ban them for less than $1. Any loss to them is not acceptable or rides on margin.
Pretty much. is the negative account still open? Paypal may not try to recover funds immediatelyif you are still receiving payments. I would call Paypal IF you think the buyer has no claim.
If you would of called and said the buyer is trying to scam you, and you warned them of Paypal policy of no protection for digital goods you would have it ruled in your favor. I have never lost a Paypal case as a seller in my whole life and I only sell digital goods.
