Over Optimization Penalty Launched Today

My authority site is dead as far as the main keywords go - All from first page to not in top 1,000.

However, lots of crappy long tails appear to remain stable, but non-long-tail related keywords have also pretty much died.

All my other sites have died too except for the few newest ones which I've hardly backlinked - Which ofcourse haven't even begun to rank now, so i fear that they will never rank now!

Anyone confirm whether this update effects all googles or just .com? If just .com do you think it will soon be rolled out everywhere?

My main site still ok on .com.au but wiped out completely on .com.

.es and -com.ar and com.mx affected as well.

"In the next few days, we're launching an important algorithm change targeted at webspam..."

In the next few days, BHW will adapt and beat the new algo. G is fighting a losing battle here

First, Its too early to conclude this, Lets wait for some time.

However, If this mess remains same, one thing is sure. Google has given "no penalty badge" for web 2.0, amazon and other such sites. I feel this because these kind of sites are the one's having the most spammy backlinks ever and still ranks on top.It makes sense because google for sure knows now that these sites are actually used for link schemes like pyramids by the Blackhatters, so web 2.0 are obviously treated special by the bots.

Without revealing too much I can confirm that the big name websites are not being affected by "over-optimization" penalties. And whilst my own sites have just had huge drops in the rankings, my content on the 'big name sites' has been unaffected (and in some cases has even increased in rank). I have used the same SEO methods in all cases.

We want people doing white hat search engine optimization (or even no search engine optimization at all) to be free to focus on creating amazing, compelling web sites.

Hi mate,

I can confirm that it has affected .com.au sites as well...one of my clients got hit pretty bad..not in top 100 for 80% of their keywords.

Also..the update has happened on google.com.au, I am seeing a lot of changes on SERPS for a lot of competitive markets where now only big players like banks are ranking, they never used to be there before.

Also quite a few of my niche sites ranking in g.com.au have been affected...not too major but still dropping a few pages..

Non-consistant BL (100 BL in one month and zero the next month) may be a factor of penalties with this new update. To be confirmed...

not the case, i have other sites that haven't been touched in over a year that have no penalty

I was hit yesterday and after a lot of searching, Google brought me to this forum. Okay, I lost almost everything. But now, how to get out of this penalty? Will changing the content structures help? I suppose truth never prevails. All my articles had 500 to 1000+ words and I was writing about a specific topic which was never explained fully by my competitors. My blog was SEO friendly. Yet Google had to slap it. What must be done?

My two best performing sites have been smashed as of 5 hrs ago. Im in Australia. Are there any other ANZAC'S that have been smashed over the last couple of hours/day.

"LEST WE FORGET"

I'm an aussie and have been hit, not too badly, but hit nonetheless.
the damage in G.com.au is pretty much mirroring the damage in G.com for me. Out of about 250 tracked keywords I had well over 100 move down in both of them today. I have never had this many red fucking arrows in ranktracker before!

The funny thing is that I've had some great gains on some big keywords, so think I may even end up better off.

I am personally going to focus on other IM projects, where SEO plays no role at all. That's the best thing we can do I believe meanwhile, to see how things settle - if they settle, and where to go. Good luck all!

That's the point on every update :)

I stopped relying on any organic Google traffic for my sites after the first iteration of Panda a year ago, except for 2 lily-white eCommerce sites.

These 2 sites have never had an inorganic backlink built to them (unless you want to count press releases as 'inorganic').

Both were ranked for well over 100 keywords; top 3 for most.

They are now wiped off the face of the Internet.

I'm not trying to incite panic, but if you think you're safe, I assure you you're not.

I am glad you chimed in before the finger pointers came in to try to state that BH is dead... This algo has no rhyme or reason at the moment and there is utter garbage ranking right now.
