One authority site copies from another authority site

Just came across this article,

and it was published on the 8th may 2016

Now also ranking just 3 positions under for the same keyword is the same article,
just different pictures,

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/w...lped-save-the-world-from-hitler-a7020926.html

which has 19k shares, and was published the next day, on the 9th may 2016,

All they have done to acknowledge this copy is

which isn't even a link.


But both were written by the same author they say,

Is there much of this that goes on, with authority news sites?
I've not seen as good an example as this before.

Oh yeah, it goes on all the time.
My news site ranked #3 once for an article, with the original source ranking #6.
Google accepts this readily within certain niches.

It happens to me also.
I wrote an original article in about 2012.
Someone copied it in about 2015.
Now he rank better than me.
I think Google does not care about duplicate contents.

Yep. Very common with News sites and Wikipedia like sites. See it all the time and Google doesn't seem to mind.
