A couple weeks ago I started a wordpress powered website hosted by GoDaddy. It is a photo sharing and video sharing website with kid-friendly content that I find on google. I recently added articles (maybe a few hundred words each) which I write and then add a picture and then link to the original source. This helped me get a few organic searches.

I think I made a mistake though, because today and yesterday I tried out spamming forums and other services such as Bubblews and funny forums with my content and links to my website. It gained me a few immediate views, but I think I may have been penalized by google because I haven't gotten any organic searches for about 2 days now. So, now I'm starting over in terms of organic growth.

I also would like to say that I have an Instagram account with over 8000 followers I made 100% legit so I have real people and get almost 300 likes on everything I post (I also use tags though). It is the same name as my website and so I have been redirecting traffic to my website from there. The only other thing I have done to promote my website is I wrote one article on my hubpage and put the link in my article.

So, to conclude, my website traffic has been depressingly low. My traffic yesterday was- 4 uniques, 8 visits, 37 page views, 25% bounce rate, 0 organic, and 4.63 pages per visit as per google analytics dashboard for WP.

    Here's my website-

I would really appreciate some help in growing it. I can't post URLs since I'm new.

    Hello,

Before anything take a better look at your onpage SEO. Take a look at:
    -Title (for each page)
-Description (Take 2 minutes of your time to make a unique description for each and every post/page of around 140 characters.
-Use KEYWORDS and TAGS. (still a must)
-USE(!!!!!) internal linking for your site. This is very important lately. Don't over do it, but for example in an article with 500 words you can use 3-5 internal links. Don't use only keywords, you can use something like: To see more funny cats "click here"(make this as a hyperlink).
-USE(!!!!) external links to authority sites. Google gives your more credibility and authority for linking to Wikipedia articles, Youtube videos, etc.
-In an article try to use at least one video and one image. Also it helps to give quotations from authority sites and to actually "quote" content from top sites from your niche.

After that you can go after offpage optimization. The main idea is that actually every backlink count. Don't spam the hell out of forum profiles, or forum posts, do all types of links and always use different articles/description.

Good luck buddy and welcome to BHW! :)

Thank you for the helpful reply and the warm welcome to the community. It's something I appreciate greatly.

I currently use Yoast SEO and I have been creating, as best I can, title, meta, and keywords, but I will start doing descriptions on each of my posts as it makes sense that that would increase my traffic.

I did not know that google looked at both internal and external links. I will start doing that right away as well. Thanks again for suggesting those two things, because it is something I will be able to implement right away.

I have a couple questions though, when you say quote authority sites, do you refer to simply copying a line or two from a site or do I need to do the aforementioned as well as link to them directly after the quote? In other words, what is the best way to quote another site with hopes to be recognized positively by google?

Also, could I quote an article from another site and then link to that site or is that simply copying content and something that will be punished? I would be looking to basically use another sites content as my own while still giving them credit for it, but I don't know if that is a good idea.

Another question not related to the above reply, would be regarding my ads. I know my traffic is dismal at the moment, but I feel as is I am not getting the most earning potential out of my two sidebar and one footer ad provided by chitika. I have considered applying to Peerfly for CPA offers and I recently dropped both taggify and popads due to the fact that I felt they were too intrusive and would bother my visitors. Any advice on monetization would be very appreciated.

    -Thanks Everyone

You have to give them credit to those authority sites. Let's say you have an article written about BMW. You can go to New York Times, Wikipedia, The Guardian, it can be any authority site that has content for you. You can quote them and write below Read more on New York Times or you can write that before the quote itself "New York Times wrote about BMW last week:". You got the point.

Regarding your ads, why do you need them without traffic? Try to gain some authority, traffic and only after that you should post ads. Many people post ads from the begining, and I don't disagree with that but I prefer to post ads only after I have some stable traffic.

Hope you can get to 100k daily :D

I think I will start simply copying half of an article and then linking to authority sites with a "Read More" button. It's better if people are actually using the links right? If I'm understanding all that right, it sounds like a great idea.

As far as the ads go, I'll be honest. I'm new to this whole thing and I was honestly expecting to be making more money than I have been. I think I will follow your advice and remove the ads until I get more unique visitors everyday. Hopefully that will promote more growth and repeat visitors. Besides, I'm only losing the penny or less a day I was making Lol.

Thank you, 100k a day is a dream that I hope to achieve with the help of people like you!

Hey, which Taggify products did you tried? You know that you can customize appearance, colors, etc to make it less intrusive? i bet you, you can make money without scaring your users.

I ended up taking down my site. I'm looking to revamp it right now with a 9GAG clone or something. If you know where I can get one that would be really helpful.

As far as Taggify goes I ended up not really using them. The traffic I was getting didn't make showing ads even worth it.
