Need advice on hosting please :)

Hey ive been using servage for years they always answer my support questions quickly and the service seems really great. another plus is you can host as many websites as you want for one low price.
 
I've been using Hostgator for years on my small sites and their service has been flawless. They do a pretty nice introductory offer of their first month for $0.01 if you have a coupon code so you can test them out. Thanks for the input, did a bit more digging and hostwinds seems one of the preferred choices here. Also is a VPS advisable? and will it help in SEO terms?
 
Personally i'm very pleased with Namecheap hosting. It's not the cheapest hosting around but it's always up, the customer service is great and you get cpanel. Plus i always think it's nice to host with a registar because you have everything under one roof.
 
I have used Dreamhost for several of my sites for the last 18 months and have been very pleased. I haven't used Hostwinds personally, however, I have heard good things.

Between these 3 companies you will be ok and get the support that you need.
 
I'm happy with Dreamhost, I've used it for a couple of my live sites and I'm pleased for their service.
I also use Google App Engine (free hosting), but in this case you'll need some time to study the infrastructure and the programming model around it.

Was just about to buy hostwinds, but that does look interesting.. too many options i guess!
 
Yes there are too many options but the main thing to see is the support side of the picture. If you do not get a prompt support, it is just a headache then.

I can't say much about hostwinds, but Blue Host is by far my favorite, plus their customer service is just top notch, any issue I ever had, they had me back on track within 5 minutes of me picking up my phone.
 
If it's a mission critical website (not a throwaway like gateways, microniche etc) then I would go with a professional hosting company. You pay more, but the support is epic.
I've personally used handsonwebhosting and you get fixes to your problems via support ticket in usually 5 or 10 minutes. The owner of the place even does support tickets, so you're not going to be bounced around a bunch of monkeys for days on end.
Another good one is EWDHosting.
