What is the optimal keyword density for each keyword I want to target?

my keywords are anywhere from 2-5 words long. I was thinking my main keyword should be at a little above .5% and the rest of them should be a hair below .5%

Ideas? or anyone actually test this yet?

yes. Around 1% is enough for long tail keywords.

Avoid keyword stuffing.Just focus on writing really good content.

Hi!

Keyword density (KD) is the percentage for the number of times a given keyword appears. Imagine that - in 100 words - you use 5 instances of "mobile offers". The keyword "mobile offers" appears five times in an 100-word text. Meaning what? That you've got a keyword density of 5%.

Even so, I believe you should focus on other aspects other than KD. Try writing naturally, use the keyword on your URL, content, H2, etc. - what's called "basic on-page SEO."

I think that this strategy - for this specific case - would be more beneficial for you!

Cheers!

Hello, Thanks for all the great responses. I tried to leave the content in its natural form for a while 3-5 weeks. It didn't seem like they were performing as well as the others. I don't think I have enough organic traffic to let Google figure out what to do with my article. So, I decided to keyword optimize this article as well. I'm going for multiple keywords for the first time.

My main keyword is 5 words long. And I'm going for a couple others 2-4 words long each. I heard that 1% on any multiple keyword article is WAY too much.

OnceMatt Cutts said about the keyword density "there are no limitations unless it looks naturally and properly fitted to the article to with meaning". Google suggest writing natural articles. Again, there is no ideal percentage, but placing your keyword in natural places will work the best.

IMO 1% we can use along with LSI keyword for better ranking. Result depends on how you are placing in article without damaging content.
