MOving from http to https

Hi guys,
Realy good question if make sense to move entire site from http to https,
i just noticed dropped around 30% in ranking, but not in clicks,
weird.., maybe because of quantity of links pointing to a https or redirect from http to https(301),
did you have same problem, any ideas?

To me personally I only benefit the fact to change to https, my ranking increased, I have no idea why that happened to you
 
I have been told that you may get a ranking drop when you first go to https then your site should start to recover again. But you need to make sure all old pages and images redirect to the https also make sure you have updated your site map.
 
On my website https done nothing. First ranking drop down then recover to the same positions.

Thanks, i think it`s connected somehow with number of links that point to https, there are just few, when http has good number of backlinks, what u have said it`s logical.., hope to see recovered rankings soon..
 
You shouldn't have any drop if you migrate website properly and set everything in short time.
 
Are you sure your certificate is set well on server? Did u try with different browser to see if any warning is showing? I before had problem on one site that only notice in Chrome. This leaded to a drop in traffic for me.
 
I talked about this http->https migration on my journey thread a couple times.

I did notice a huge drop in rankings on one of my massive sites, and, in turn, revenue. Its been about a month, month and a half. Things are starting to return to normal. Hoping i see an increase in rankins/traffic, in a bit here.

Like others have said tho, you gotta make sure you have your redirects setup.
 
Its also a matter of how SSL configured on your Servers. Some config might block older Browser there is many options that can be bad for traffic. With http any one can see, with https some system might not be compatible. One of my friends did security changes to config after last SSL exploit and it was secure yes, but also only new browser could see his site. Traffic of course was down much!
 
It's about 7 weeks I migrated one of my blogs, one I noticed is that, new pages are indexed quickly while many of the old pages are yet to be indexed. Also, most of my backlinks are already redirected and mostly to different pages. Hope to see each old page redirecting its page power to the new page version when all the pages are indexed.
 
Fix your canonicals if you haven't already. Same for your sitemap and even internal links. hreflang as well.

Make sure all versions of your URL have verified in GSC, then set your preferred domain.
Also, make sure you're permanently redirecting to only one version of your URL.
 
Also remember change all your image link to support both http/https !
 
make sure your redirect must be

http:// =>
http:// http://www.=>

Both version must be redirect on your new port
https:// or https:// www.
 
I also noticed some loss, may it happens through the 301 loosing link juice over time?
 
I tested a year ago and my website dropped a lot, after 1 month still droping i reverse back to http and positions are back. Now Im scared to test again. Maybe I should get more time...

Chrome is going to warn people when using your site it's not secure soon, so if you have a lot of Chrome users, it makes sense to do it, SEO aside.
