Hi guys,

Like all of you at some point of time, I am confused. I did SEO work before some years but now I see that everything has changed. What has remained the same is the value of ON-PAGE and keyword search.

While I am doing keyword research, I am finding different data between different services. In my example let's say I am looking for keyword "xyz"

Using Semrush keyword difficulty is 84 from 100, in ahrefs it is 4 from 100 and keywordrevealer is 54 from 100.

I know that ahrefs has biggest data-set among all other services but semrush is not a small thing as well and difference between these two is huge!

which one would you think is better to use ahrefs or semrush or do you have any other service that is proven to you?

None of them are accurate now a days as they are generally blocked. So your best bet is checking manually which gives better idea.

how to check manually? can you recommend me a specific method?

ahrefs chrome plugin. Search any term using google, and the plugin will show you the domain ranking and page ranking, amount of backlinks etc, under search results.

You need an ahrefs account though

I've posted a couple of threads about this a while back

The only way to check is to check the first page of the serps manually.

If you have ahrefs, their chrome plugin lets you do that quickly. If you don't, the majestic chrome plugin is free and good, but you have to click on each result in the serps and then click the plugin, so you have to do 10 checks with the majestic plugin, but only 1 with the ahrefs plugin

In my opinion, none of the keyword difficulty services are accurate, if you were to find a keyword with sites such as Pinterest, Reddit, Quora, etc, dominating the first page, these tools would automatically show a high KC score due to the high domain authority of these sites, whereas most such search results often have 'Very-Thin' or irrelevant content, which can be outranked with ease.

So the best KC score is the perception you gain via experience ;)

yes i agree 100%

also OP - semrush imo is the worst tool
all these tools should be shortcut methods at best, and then do a manual check
kwfinder seemed to be most accurate if i had to choose 1

i used Ahref and i didnt find it very accurate to be honest, for some keywords and website data seemed accurate and for some it seemed vague. But im still using as i have to check stuff my competitors are doing.

The keyword difficulty tool on ahrefs is not worth looking at.

but looking at the DR and the UR of the websites in the top 10 places for a search term is.

That is what the chrome plugin is good for.

KWFINDER is probably the best but even so it's not amazing. I did a post on replicating their competition scores for free here. Be sure to checkout the 2nd page for a more accurate formula then the original I posted on the original post.

I tend to use advance search operators a lot more now. I do most of my work manually and have some checklist for manual competition checking.
