Hello, I'm running a wordpress (video) blog and installed a plug in to keep track of my traffic.
Additionally to my human visitors who usually get refered to me via a link I provide on youtube etc., I get big amounts of mysterious visitors that reach me from all kinds of links (shoe stores, gaming sites and whatnot). At least that's what my statistics plug-in lists.
I would assume they are some sort of bots/crawlers, but, frankly, I have no idea. Clicking their referal links often just leads me back to my own blog or to 404 pages. Sometimes they lead to an actual site, but there's no connection to my own blog to be found there.
This is probably something completely common, but I'm an amateur in this area.
Either way, it's not just 2 or 3 google bots that crawl my blog and its various individual pages, but hundreds of unique "users". I'm currently getting around 3,000 hits per day from those strange visitors alone. This happens every day, regardless of updates. I once didn't visit my own blog for a week and when returning had received around 20,000 hits of that sort.
My question is whether there's any way to monetize these... I would like to find a method that gives me a bit of money simply because I have that kind of traffic on my site. Any impression-based banners or images or whatever. It would be completely auto-piloted money, since I really have zero to do to get that traffic. They just keep visiting my site all the time.
I tried putting an ****** banner to the blog which would pop up every time someone enters any page of my blog. It works perfectly for human visitors, but those "bots" or whatever they are seem to be immune and aren't counted.
I guess if there was some banner/image actually embedded into the pages or posts, which does not require to be clicked or activated, but is simply there as part of the post and each view of the post would count as an impression, this could work?
I don't know how those bots work and what content they would even load exactly, but maybe someone more knowledgable in this area has any idea how this can be used to my advantage in any way...
Thanks.
