You guys do know that if something like SOPA passes and is signed,it doesn't go into affect right away,and that there will be several months to adapt to the new law?

Now out of top 10 ,probably 50% of the global internet, 5 of them can be put the same category of megaupload and shut down. Seriously shutting down megaupload would stop privacy ? If there are laws why also not shut down these ? I think this is the case of USA being police of the world just because megaupload was not paying them good taxes :D

There is seriously something else behind piracy act at this. This won't even hurt 0.00001% piracy going on the internet, bring producers 0.000001% more revenue. Seriously just think about it :)

For example i watch a movie via download and i like it. When the second movie comes i go to the cinema and watch it. It might be even a case that if there were no piracy , companies would generate less revenue than now.

I dont think filesonic will go down,not only do they take the files down asap from dmca,but they have now partnered with a company to use VDNA from files to auto-delete them within minutes of being uploaded.

SOPA wouldn't have affected Wikipedia that much,since it is an non profit organization and reviews are currently legally(SOPA wasn't about changing what was fair use). Whereas Google(google+youtube) Would have to shell out billions in royalties if SOPA waspassed,and they would have to spend more effort banning certain websites from their search engines and a ton of other things. It wasn't about Free speech or control it was about profits.

Companies are losing millions in royalties to sites such as youtube,megaupload,filejungle,fileserve etc and they want that money back so they are trying to force people to go legit. Whereas the "Pirates" want to keep making money without having to pay royalties.

They don't care anymore about someone singing a cover song on youtube and making nothing about it, They care about Google not paying them a % of the ad revenue from those views.

Right now in Washington D.C., Congress is considering two bills that would censor the web and impose burdensome regulations on American businesses. They're known as the​
PROTECT IP Act
(PIPA) in the Senate and the ​
Stop Online Piracy Act
(SOPA) in the House. Here's what they'd do:​

  • PIPA & SOPA will censor the web. These bills would grant new powers to law enforcement to filter the Internet and block access to tools to get around those filters. We know from experience that these powers are on the wish list of oppressive regimes throughout the world. SOPA and PIPA also eliminate due process. They provide incentives for American companies to shut down, block access to and stop servicing U.S. and foreign websites that copyright and trademark owners allege are illegal without any due process or ability of a wrongfully targeted website to seek restitution.
  • PIPA & SOPA will risk our industry's track record of innovation and job creation. These bills would make it easier to sue law-abiding U.S. companies. Law-abiding payment processors and Internet advertising services can be subject to these private rights of action. SOPA and PIPA would also create harmful (and uncertain) technology mandates on U.S. Internet companies, as federal judges second-guess technological measures used by these companies to stop bad actors, and potentially impose inconsistent injunctions on them.
  • PIPA & SOPA will not stop piracy. These bills wouldn't get rid of pirate sites. Pirate sites would just change their addresses in order to continue their criminal activities. There are better ways to address piracy than to ask U.S. companies to censor the Internet. The foreign rogue sites are in it for the money, and we believe the best way to shut them down is to cut off their sources of funding. As a result, Google supports alternative approaches like the OPEN Act.
Fighting online piracy is extremely important. We are investing a lot of time and money in that fight. Last year alone we acted on copyright takedown notices for more than 5 million webpages and invested more than $60 million in the fight against ads appearing on bad sites. And we think there is more that can be done here—like targeted and focused steps to cut off the money supply to foreign pirate sites. If you cut off the money flow, you cut the incentive to steal. ​

The ONLY way to adjust, to not have your website swarming with copyrighted material is if you MODERATE the content BEFORE it has been uploaded. The big sites like youtube, google, blogspot, how do you think they can moderate content before it's uploaded?

The only thing you can argue is that megaupload only got taken down because of the E-mails he was sending and because of him not following DMCA notices...sure I will even go as far and agree with you there.

However if a bill like SOPA passes then they will not even need to follow the DMCA process, they would simply be able to shutdown websites before even filing a DMCA notice. So yes, with bills like NO-IP and SOPA it would destroy the internet and quite a hefty amount of websites.

Please let me know how they can adjust when as I already said, the only way is to moderate BEFORE the content is uploaded and when 48 hours of content is uploaded to youtube every minute, heh, yeah, good luck.

Some of it was a bit overacting,but the big guys protesting besides Wikipedia wanted to keep more money,and SOPA would have cut into their profits.

Its funny how Google claims that when SOPA mentioned that in order for a site to be shut down,it had be done through a court order. And if it was found to be a non valid shutdown during an appeal,the website owner was legally allowed to sue for damages

The FEDS are sending the message loud and clear with what they did to megaupload.

And the message is:
If you are helping steal content in any way or form, even if you are in another country, we will come get you; And your OWN government will help us put you in prison.


It is a harsh message, but one that I would NOT ignore.

As stealing removes the original content, whereas copying merely duplicates the content.

nice explanation. They are talking without thinking a second. Youtube were gonna adjust just bullshit. Select random 95 video out of 100 from youtube and check whether they have copyrighted content or not. Use sort newest feature.

There are also two things called licenses and royalties,you need a license and you need to pay royalties if you want to distribute something that is copyrighted,trademarked,patented or a combination of the three.

As well as such things as copyright LAW. It's the owners responsibility to protect their own interest.

It's not the taxpayers responsibility of ANY country to make sure the entertainment industrys profit from it's capitalistic enevours are protected.

Tax money is to be used to protect your homeland and it's way of life and for feeding the hungry, cancer kids, the poor, the elderly, and anyone else who can't help themselves.

NOT for just plain lazieness. And that's what the entertainment industry is. Too lazy to enforce the laws already protecting them and too lazy to create effective content locking.

It's WAY cheaper to pay politicians to do what they want then to invest time and money doing it themselves.


And both sopa and pipa make it illeagal for any entity allowing access to unlawful copyrighted material thus subjecting them to shutdown.

Someone here mentioned MTV. Think they worked for them or whatevea... using the same reasoning, if the bills where in effect years ago, MTV could have been shut down for broadcasting Vanilla Ice's sampling of queen. Not to mention the 100's of other music theft cases amongst artists.

Even so, half these big music companies could just as well be shut down for recording and distributing copyrighted material from belonging to other artists.


Disclaimer: Vanilla Ice is just an example so get over it if ya don't like it. Besides, that mother can remodel a house like no ones business.

I did not say they were going to do it willingly.
I did not say that they actually want to do it.
Why would they..... they profit from pirated content too.
youtube would loss a ton of money if SOPA passes.
I do not believe Google aka youtube and friends... care about freedom.
