Matt Says no SEO AT ALL

The only thing that is dead is black hat seo. White hat seo will always be good in the eyes of google. I for one am glad that it is turning out like this, it means less competition for real SEO experts and those willing to sit down and do the research and proper writing. Now the market will not be flooded with all the spam services and lazy people. They can all go back to being full time burger shack workers or panhandlers.

Not only are you wrong - but your also "on the inside pissing in."

This has all happened before. When Yahoo and Lycos went "phut" all the IM's were going
"Oh noes we now need links - that's never gonna happen - how can we game that"?
Then "We all need unique content - how we ever gonna game that"?
Then "We need to post hundreds of articles on all these subscription sites - how we ever gonna do that"?

This is just another "then" - and it will be solved - and probably pretty quick. A month or two maybe 3 at the outside.

We never win - Google never wins - there is no "end" as long as Google are around - and there is no "winner".

They make a safe - we get better at safecracking - so they make a better safe and we get....well you get the picture

Of course some will quit - but here's a truth that's been bourne out time and time again at times like this..

Those that stick in - adapt, make good changes and work hard WILL MAKE MORE MONEY THAN EVER for a few months - maybe a year once the dust settles. Why?

Because all the quitters have lost heart and fucked off leaving us with a bigger slice of the pie.

You make your profit with whatever the method is at the time. You get in early - you make money -
YOU ACCEPT RIGHT FROM THE GET-GO THAT WHAT YOU ARE MAKING WILL NOT LAST FOREVER

All Blackhat will do is change. We can adapt a damn site quicker than Google
WHATEVER google are now using to rank with -

  • Whatever factors have become more relavent,
  • Whatever content is now more accepted,
  • Whatever method is now considered best practice...

You can bet your ass there are BH application developers working it out and making products NOW..TODAY to game it.

Nuke, Xrumer, Demon and a few other top tools will make some subtle changes - maybe change the advice for users on how to link better.
Other new tools will be developed to fill the gaps.
A lot of crap applications that no longer offer the obfuscation/diversity or granular control required to win at this game will be wiped out

Links will always be vital to Google, so the best link tools will just need to adjust the way that users implement their strategies with them.
New tools that do all sorts of stuff will evolve. Not just linking - anything.

Coming in here proclaiming that Google have won.

Man when it says "Newbie" by your avatar - it's not f%^king joking

[Man just realized how obvious it is that I'm reading Stephen King at the moment - will have to try and revery to just writing as me rather than a character from The Stand or Under The Dome]

Actually there are many websites that have done no SEO so to speak. They've never run linking campaigns, never used blackhat methods or tools. Here's a few:

Google.com
Youtube
Amazon
eBay
Facebook
Twitter
BBC.co.uk
CNN
Fiverr!

and there are tons more.

These sites became massive due to word of mouth and others sites linking to them naturally. Unfortunately Mr Cutts and his merry men expect the rest of the Internet to work the same way. But he told everyone that they rank every site by the links pointing in. Which lit the flames of blackhat SEO and every man and his dog has been firing links at their sites in every way possible ever since.

In the perfect world the search results would be filled with sites that are naturally popular with great content. But we don't live in a perfect world and Mr Cutts doesn't seem to realize that and nothing he or G do will stop us ranking sites. Seriously, because of the way they rank sites, Google can't win. We will also build more links, more content and find more methods than the average Joe or corporation. And that is really pissing Google off!

G could kill SEO tomorrow if they turn off inbound links as a factor. Wouldn't that be fun! Sites ranking on content only. It would never work and will never happen. So link building is here to stay.

Hey Google, go back to manually verified directories or let us control your search results!
That's not true, most of those sites have done SEO, even if it is simply adding rel nofollow, also eBay has an SEO team or an expert that works there. Same with BBC

SEO is still important. Do not always be carried away by everything the guy says.

Yup Facebook has a big SEO department and Ebay have an SEO budget in 7 figures as well as a keyword research section for PPC (which they spend a fortune on)

Scritty

Google that makes big $$ every sec is telling us - Hey happy monkeys dont do seo, dont do anything that will even look like spam. Be happy, be motivated and write exiting stuff.

Google search page :
First 30-60% Adsense than shopping results than youtube ... So why do anything when google has it all covered. - want us to stop spamming so you can spam :)
Only if he wanted to say "Dont do stupid SEO" I agree, but "Dont do any SEO" is just a bad joke :)

One thing this has taught me, is that a new strategy for clients websites is probably in order when their website is extremely important.

E.g. this update only hit the pages that were offensive. It was not a site-wide penalty. Inner pages that didn't have offending SEO on them still rank well, from my experience. So when SEOing a clients website, it is important that we reconsider SEOing the homepage, and instead create inner pages to use instead. That way their current rankings will be maintained, and it will be the offending pages that will be hit. So this way, the client loses nothing. It makes it more difficult for us because the page we use may have to be new and not aged; but it is what must be done to protect client websites and our incomes.

Traffic is up for me with my biggest client website. On the 24th, traffic from google went up like 20-30%. Its been consistant for a few days. That is a legit website that had had a lot of previous shitty SEO done to it. I pray that the previous SEO will not get it penalised going forward.

maybe i am just stupid but I never really got why backlinks determined if a site ranked high or not. lets be real here...everyone who has a website wants to be #1 for a term and get traffic to sell something right? so why in the hell would they ever want to link out to another website giving them a backlink for no reason? it just doesnt make sense logically. all webmasters are greedy. you only want peopel coming to your site and not leaving. this whole thing about being a "valuable resource" type of site in google's eyes is stupid. there is no utopia on the internet. so why the F do backlinks count so much?

Content is still king but I'm assuming that a website's bounce rate is is what will really matter (high bounce rate = non engaging website).

This is why I would definitely advise against using Google Analyticis :p
Removed Analytics from all my sites a few months ago.
