Relying on search rankings for traffic is a dangerous strategy. One of the only things I agree on from seomoz's studies is that a good SEO campaign results in backlinks from which you should see a lot of referred traffic, indefinitely. Spamming a bunch of pligg sites nobody goes to is a short-term short-sighted strategy.

I say fck him. Just give it 1 or 2 weeks, things will ease up.

Content is still king but I'm assuming that a website's bounce rate is is what will really matter (high bounce rate = non engaging website).

You assume wrong, my site's bounce rate that was hit (the only one that was) is 22%
The rest of the sites that were not hit, have much much higher bounce rate numbers.
Likewise average time on site with the first site is around 5 minutes.

matt will always be on the wrong end of the dick until there will be dicks

The big boys do stuff to improve their rankings and make big bucks so. That's like saying "Let's All Play Nice"....This is the real world and its survival of the fittest.

Ok, I have a different take on this. Those big companies that are number 1 say in 'Car insurance'. You have any idea how much they give Google on a monthly basis? Of course Matt is going to say this. I would to because my loyalty would not be to the people searching it would be to the people paying.

Think about it and tell me you wouldn't do the same.

no sites with adsense on it = less adwords earnings for google.
seo will never be dead, the way to work on it may change but the business wont be dead

^^^^^^^
QFT - people are clicking less and less on adsense in Google listings. It makes them feel like sheep being lead "Hell no - I tell you - you don't tell me. You better believe that happy crappy"

Yep- that's been what Matt's been professing since day 1, the truth is, that isn't how the world of Google works.

Frankly, you need to perform SEO, unless you are a powerhouse like CNN (who still performs on-site factors) and receive a ton of natural backlinks.

Don't let the smoke and mirrors deter you from SEO, that's what M. Cutts was put in place to do.

How can Seo be dead when you have 1,000 or 10,000 people competing for 10 page 1 Spots.

If you go this route then only companies with $100,000 budgets will be in the search engines .. And the Internet would die off because no.one else would be able to make money to support their sites and their time..... Basically I think Google is opening the door for the other search engines to catch up .. If that's at all possible.

Of course it's possible, Google isn't even the largest search engine on the net by total worldwide users.
Yahoo is biggest in Japan (by far)
and Baidu in China

A lot of Europe uses Yahoo/Bing depending on locations.

I previously had to use google checkout for about 2 weeks time, and customers called our workers because they REFUSED to give google any of their information, they didn't trust them... they wanted to pay by paypal or over the phone directly (paypal in my experience is worse to sellers)

Pretty sad that google is less trusted than handing your credit card number out over the phone

I remember seo "died" several times, but it is still alive, so I think it will be even after all that sh**t.

I think Google has to be very careful with how much they attempt to 'define' what the internet should be lest everyone move over to Bing and other competitors. Google is becoming less and less of a search engine for the people.

The chances of succeeding peaks just like these sites is in this ratio..

Number of sites you mentioned : Total no of sites in the world

= 9:several billion :D

Actually there are many websites that have done no SEO so to speak. They've never run linking campaigns, never used blackhat methods or tools. Here's a few:

Google.com
Youtube
Amazon
eBay
Facebook
Twitter
BBC.co.uk
CNN
Fiverr!

and there are tons more.

These sites became massive due to word of mouth and others sites linking to them naturally. Unfortunately Mr Cutts and his merry men expect the rest of the Internet to work the same way. But he told everyone that they rank every site by the links pointing in. Which lit the flames of blackhat SEO and every man and his dog has been firing links at their sites in every way possible ever since.

In the perfect world the search results would be filled with sites that are naturally popular with great content. But we don't live in a perfect world and Mr Cutts doesn't seem to realize that and nothing he or G do will stop us ranking sites. Seriously, because of the way they rank sites, Google can't win. We will also build more links, more content and find more methods than the average Joe or corporation. And that is really pissing Google off!

G could kill SEO tomorrow if they turn off inbound links as a factor. Wouldn't that be fun! Sites ranking on content only. It would never work and will never happen. So link building is here to stay.

Hey Google, go back to manually verified directories or let us control your search results!

There are a lot more than 9 sites that are authority sites that get top serp positions without doing offpage SEO. My point is that it's not impossible to rank without SEO, but the odds are against it unless you manage to create the next big thing. Just checkout Alexa's top 500 websites. I doubt you'll find any of them running off page SEO at all.

one day we will all quit seo....... this crap changes to quickly
