This is the wrong forum to ask about it.
However, since I did real money trading in games when I was young, I can tell some things.
First of all, things are changed, and the whole thing isn't worth it anymore. Really. Spending on hour per day on selling service/affiliate marketing/CPA is a way more profitable than farming/grinding/market manipulating for the same amount of time in current MMO games.
Partly, because MMO games are in their decline. Right now online games are dominated by session games, so MMO's becoming irrelevant.
Secondly, for huge success, you need 4 things:
1. Team. Or better, the professional gaming community that specializes in banking from game goods. Example: any MASSIVE corporation in EVE-online. Most of the higher-ups there are focused on raking cash and creating possibilities to do it, while regular players are working for them.
2. New Game/server launch. You need an undeveloped market/infrastructure which is a lot easier to manipulate. The new game launch is a way better because most of the players don't know what to do. While new servers ain't that good. Well, also I'd say, the Path of Exile can be an exception, launching new things every 3 months forcing people to start over and over again.
3. Understanding of the game market. If we are talking about new game launches, Beta-testing is a must-have. By the whole team.
4. Investment. Only by monopolizing smth you can make it big. And you have to invest in it. Sometimes, a lot.
I personally saw all the things I described. Sometimes I participated in those activities because in my country MMO's usually launch later than in the other world, and game communities are banking really hard on those launches.
UPD: Oh, I forgot one more thing - creating a reseller website worked too. However, MMO's on their decline, so look for something else.
