So did the metrics algo actually change or was it a temporary thing?

They wouldn't change the algorithm with such significant effect like that. Think about it, they make their money by selling those metrics to people who use them, and in order for those people to continue to find them useful they have to be reliable and consistent. If a domain which was TF20 suddenly changes to TF17 when nothing else has changed, that's not being consistent and I don't think they would do that.

Aaaand we are back at it again!
However this time it seems less brutal as the last time. I actually even think, that NOW it's actually fixed. Because last 2 weeks, my stock of TF15+ domains was 3 times higher than normal. Today, after this update which apparently happened a few hours ago, it's back to normal. Hmm...
