Link Building Through a 301

Hi Guys,

I want to use some private blog networks to boost my sites rankings but afraid of them being penalized.

Would it be safer to link them through a 301 and if they are penalized I can just remove the 301?

Is this feasible at all?

Or should I just avoid these blog networks as it is not a site I can afford to lose.

I always build links through a 301... never point anything directly at my money site. I do this from the very first day of starting a new site - because it also has additional benefits, in that if my money site get's slapped, I can quickly and easily point all the linking power to a new site, and have it ranking within a few days :)

Nice tip ! Also, if the 301 redirect if from a site that has separate niche than your new site then ??
 
You are more safe linking with contextual links
i mean, its better to build another site put wordpress on it write some unique content on it and place your link
it would be a good a idea to build backlinks to the new acquaried site,
if you make a direct 301 to your money site you can affect it before you see any improvements
 
Yeah , I think the strategy ive seen others deploy successfully is to gradually keep a small flow of links to the OLD url that you are 301'ing and building some links at the new pages.

How you are managing all your redirects? Custom script or third party solution? Thanks!
 
when penalizing, Google Webspam doesn't look at your site alone and decides it's not good enough. It also looks at your backlinks, in your case the 301's. I'm guessing your 301'ed domains will also get penalized in this process, not just the money site.

I suggest you build links to pages and link the pages to your main domain. Having a page removed completely, in case of a manual penalty, is much easier than 'contacting' webmasters to get your links removed or turned into nofollows.

build your links to domain.com/page and have a single d0follow link on the page, pointing to domain.com . This assures the optimal PR flow through your internal link building and also keeps you safe from penalties

No, nothing complicated at all - just in my web hosting account, or sometimes with the domain registrar if they'll do it at the DNS level. I then just have an excel spreadsheet where I keep track of each domain, and what I've used it for, so I can decide what to do with it after I'm done.

They possibly may, but I'm not cynical enough to think that everything Cutts says is an outright lie, and from my interpretation of his comments in the last few months, they don't yet go 'upstream' to have a look at your links in detail, but that they are starting to 'look at ways of doing that', if I recall correctly his words...

Maybe I've just gotten lucky - I haven't lost any of my sites yet whilst using this method, but undoubtedly a large part of that is the fact that the niches I compete in aren't your typical IM niches that are hard-fought and where the competitors are checking each other waiting to file a spam report with G the minute someone else pops up... The majority of sites I do are local business lead pages, and I sell the leads directly (live transfer calls, email leads, etc).

Tony, do you use a brand new domain for the 301, or do you prefer an aged one (expired domain)?

I've tried both, and thus far, I can't say that an aged one is better than a new one. It doesn't seem to make any difference - though my sample size is quite small (less than 100 domains thus far) so it could all be chance and coincidence...

Logically, though, if you're building links to a new domain, G will follow those links and instead of indexing that new domain it will again follow the 301, and pick up the money-site that way... so I really can't see how it would matter whether your 301-feeder is new or old.
 
Some great info here. So If I am using some web 2.0s as a buffer I think it would be ok to maybe just create say 5 new ones and point all the links through them. Bare in mind I have over 1,000 links already pointing to my site so it is not just 5 links to my site but I mean 5 web 2.0 to point the blog networks at.

If your worry is getting a penalty, you can go ahead and direct link to the money site. If it gets slapped, you can always get a new domain and redirect the old one to the new one - works just as good as using a 301 and changing where it points to when you get slapped.

Sure... that would be a pretty typical method.

Except for the fact that, given time, a 301 also flows a penalty... so that would probably be shooting yourself in the foot.

I just do it once-off, initially, and then revisit it if I need to.

Because most of my link power comes from rented links (sape), as long as those links are alive I tend to keep ranking. All the other stuff is just spam for keyword diversity...

Do you ever let the 301 site index in google before you actually 301 it? or just add it in a hosting account and then 301 it and start blasting links?
