Link Building Through a 301

Negative - because there is never a site on it to index :) It's literally just a link-juice-redirector...

I have always wondered this myself. If i build pbn links to a 301 redirect, what anchors should i use? Brandable? Domain as anchor?

Sure it does, but that doesn't happen instantly, and when it does, you can just throw a new domain with the content and change the 301 again.
 
tony_d, are you saying that the penalty doesn't pass at all when you do it your way? How long have you been doing this?

I think you misunderstood my post - I'm saying I preempt a penalty, meaning I plan for the likelihood of receiving a penalty by building all links via a 301, so they can be easily redirected... so, if your money site is the one penalized, you can just direct the linkjuice away from it just by changing your one or two redirects, rather than having to redirect your now-penalized money site, along with the penalty, to a new money site...
 
But 301 redirect is a PERMANENT redirect.
Once you did 301 to site A you can't change it to site B, then site C, etc. every other month.
Don't you? Please clarify this moment.

What he means is this:

Month 1: Lots of links to domain A > Rank & bank
Month 2: Domain A gets v&nned, 301 to domain B > Rank & bank
Month 3: Domain B gets v&nned, 301 everything to domain C >Rank & bank

All the while you have your GSA / blog networks / whatever running night and day to keep bolstering your link juice.

And so on. It's a pretty typical technique used in certain finance and other lucrative lead gen niches.

I mean
Month 1: Lots of links to domain A > 301'd to my money site
Month 6: Money site gets slapped, change domain A's 301 to new money site
Month 6-12: Keep cashing in, repeat above steps if needed.

Mikeoff, during testing I successfully 'pulled' my ranking power from a money site and pushed it to another one each and every time, usually taking effect within 4-7days. No problem with changing a 301...

Money site gets slapped, ok. But how about your 301 redirected domain? It will get slapped too and will pass the penatly to your new money site, doesn't it?
 
I have never seen that 301 pass penatly automaticly, I think this is a kind of trigger for SQT to check the new site.

Anyway the best option if you are changing 301 is to have a backup sites for every money site. It is much harder to get penatly when you change 301 from penatly to old site than to new one.

That comes down to opinion.

I take the view that G doesn't go upstream and slap your incoming links (301s included).
Others take the view that G does indeed go upstream...

If your powers of perception are in order, and if you read the material G puts out, and watch Matt Cutts videos, you'll probably come to the same conclusion I came to. Yeah, I know, Cutts is a propaganda machine. That's why you need well tuned powers of perception to read the true message, not get stuck at the facade...

And hey - I could have it 100% wrong, but my very good results suggest to me otherwise... unless I'm about to get bitch-slapped off the earth :p

So the only link your sites show in ahrefs for example is that one 301 redirect domain? Or you still build some links to it beside 301 redirect so that it doesn't show that you got 1 backlink only?

No, in most cases I block the ahrefs bot et al from crawling the 301 site, so it doesn't detect the link. Then when my competitors check my money site, they see zero backlinks, and they scratch their heads :)

EDIT: and if I'm feeling like being cruel, I'll build literally just one or two blog comments or something else to my actual money site, to bait my competitors into thinking it's easy to rank #1, and get them to burn out their budgets with futile attempts, and then give up :)

Pretty funny really to just 301 from one site to the next as the penalties get incurred.... I suppose this works for now .. But I'm sure at some point google will wise up and make penalties flow through no matter what you do.

I get what you're doing. What I've been doing is just building links directly to the moneysite, then 301ing it to a new domain once it gets slapped, but lately it hasn't worked as well as it used to... The penalty transfers very fast (may be due to the fact that the penalties were manual, I'm not sure).

I'm just wondering that once you redirect the 301'd domain to a new site, how long do your rankings last?
