Lessons learned...how not to delete your site.

Yesterday I was setting up a subdomain. As I was playing around in the file manager of my domain folders. I decided to delete the WordPress folder from the subdomain that I just installed 5 mins before.. anyways.

I select the subdomain folder, select all, delete, click no trash....

paw.....

subdomain gone, also main domain gone!!!!

no copy in trash.
no backup copy...
why no backup... I'm a idiot.

Please anyone reading, have your site backed up. anything can happen. You could delete your site, a admin or even your host could go down. Please backup your site.

Are you sure that there is no way to recover files? Maybe some kind of tool may do that.

Sucks, I recommend just using Backup Buddy (or anything else) with automated backups offsite, or use your hosts backup function (ideally also separate from your actual hosting machine). Well worth the setup/money spent on it.

You should still have the database.

Check if your host has a site backup feature, they usually make and keep backups of your site nightly/weekly etc

I got a update.

I took the advice a few people gave me, and I reached out to my host. Yes!!! They did have a back up.

My host lucky for me had a backup of my site from 2 days before I deleted it. But to restore the site, my host charged me a few, about $25 fee..

What I've learned.... make a offline back up. I have several hard drives not being used so it's time to make a backup and backup schedule.

I plan to backup my site every 2 weeks, a cloud backup and and offline backup.
