KDP Erotic novels - Anyone with success here?

Anyone ever published erotic novels on KDP/Kindle? Have you been successful and to what extent? If so please share your stories here. Some numbers will be appreciated too (how much profit you have made over what time).

Erotica won't get your account banned as long as you avoid illegal topics. I haven't targeted this market myself, but I know some people who have made a lot of money with erotica aimed at women. It's a fairly saturated market but there is money to be made, especially if you get a series of books together. You need at least 4 or 5. Once a reader reads one and likes it, they'll generally read the full series. It would require either a lot of upfront work or a big investment in a ghostwriter though.

Unfortunately the easy money to be made from KDP disappeared when they got moved from the 10% read payout to the per page payout. You need to actually have good quality (decent story, well written, no typos) out there if you want to make money from it.

Do you have any experience with non-fiction?

as long as you're following TOS and remaining compliant you're fine.

i've thought about getting into the kindle space but my fiction never gets finished~!

Yeah, I mainly did non-fiction and some low-content. Nothing adult though, I did a mix of recipe books, how-to's and motivational books. In my experience, KDP books don't bring in much money on their own anymore. Your best bet is to either put a series of books together around the same/tangential topics. Or to use the Kindle book as a tripwire deal to get readers into your sales funnel. Alex Hormozi played that to perfection with his Kindle book. That's the benefit of KDP now, really it gives you a bit of prestige and access to the Amazon market.

I haven't released anything since 2020, when I pushed out a load of low/no content paperbacks and made a real effort at selling them. I still get a handful of sales on most of the books going through every month, despite me never looking at the dashboard and doing nothing to promote them now. It can definitely still be worth the effort, it's just not as easy as it once was.
