Hi BHW, this is my first post after many years of just reading. I think it's time to give back.

A bit of background:
I'm an internet kid, hustling online since I was 10. I started a tech startup at 23 and retired at 31. I had more than 50 awesome employees on my team. Now, I want to try something small (effort-wise) and sustainable. I've done a lot online and always loved media and ads. So, it's time to go for it. I started this thread to share my progress and give back to this forum that's always been my go-to when I'm stuck. Let's do this!

Here's my plan:
  • I've chosen a high-paying niche.
  • I'll build a legit, useful website with articles, blog posts, news, downloadable goodies, tools, and more.
  • I'll create a genuine social media presence and use a bit of paid traffic to get things rolling.
  • Probably won't buy backlinks—never liked that!
  • Then, I'll apply to top ad networks, aiming for the highest RPM ad network possible.
  • Next, I'll start buying smartly targeted, filtered traffic to my site and make money from the difference between my ad costs and revenue.
Hopefully, this will hit $10k/month (and beyond) soon.

What I've done so far:
  • Registered a cool .com domain name
  • Used Canva (free mode) to design the logo
  • Added the site to Cloudflare for speed and security
  • Installed and configured WordPress on a VPS
  • Planned the content structure (will explain later)

Costs so far:
  • Domain name: $10.37
  • VPS: $5/month

A note for the future: If this succeeds, I won't be selling anything like courses, coaching, or counseling sessions. This thread is just for sharing info and having fun!

My website is a health-related content hub. It has 4 main categories with 13 sub-categories. To start off, each will have at least 10 pieces of content, so I'll need 130 legit, useful, and informative articles. This is the hardest part for me since I'm not that patient with content creation ‍

The important point is that I'm not planning for SEO, though I might end up getting good traffic from organic search. I just need a solid website so I can get accepted into good ad networks like Mediavine (any advice?), and so that I'll have advertiseable content to get cheap but high-quality traffic.

I know it will take at least a month to gather all the content needed. I might complete the website design during this time. Also, I might start getting a bit of traffic from both social media and paid traffic. Applying for ad networks takes time, so I'm thinking about doing that either a couple of weeks from now or when the whole website is ready (what do you guys think?).

Also, I might get the subscription for the Elementor Essential plan. I've lost the excitement for doing everything by myself like in my early hustling days. Canva is on my tools list too. Since these are subscription-based services, I'll wait until I actually need them before subscribing.

Only one. I'm focusing on quality, so for now, my goal is to succeed with one website. I don't want to treat it like just a WordPress blog; I see it as a genuine business. Trying multiple sites didn't work for me in the past, so I'm sticking with one.

I see. My business is still running, but I'm no longer the CEO and don't have an executive role anymore. I've grown tired of complicated business models and managing teams and people. I like to make something alone, behind my cozy desk at home. I miss this. So, this is more of a hobby than a job for me. I find it very exciting.
 
Good luck! Sounds "easy" to do but there's a lot of knowledge behind it on how to get it going. I'm interested how long it will take for you to get there.

Good luck bro. Main part is buying traffic and optimized it properly. Also after getting some decent traffic don't forget to apply on adx network.
 
Good luck, just keep on mind that for mediavine and other premium networks you need atleast 50k traffic or more.
 
First post published! Many updates!

  • Yesterday, I designed a repeatable recipe for researching, preparing, and posting complete and comprehensive articles. It was successful but a bit costly. I had to try many tools to come up with the perfect stack for me.

  • I use AI for content generation, but not by simply asking it to write something for me. I do thorough research on a topic, gather pieces of useful information, and combine them into a cohesive article. Then I ask AI to refine it for me to ensure it's polished. I tried many AI tools and ended up "fine-tuning" a GPT-4o-mini for my purposes. Here's what I tried:
ChatGPT (already had the subscription, so no extra costs) - perfect for daily tasks​
OpenAI (for fine-tuning a model): $50 - easiest way to fine-tune base models​
Grok: $16 - great for accessing X's fresh data​
Claude: $20 - didn't help much, but solid product​
QuillBot: $10 - good paraphraser, but useless in action, so practically garbage​
GPTZero: $15 - garbage​
UndetectableAI: $12 - garbage​

  • I also signed up for Canva's trial plan. I haven't been billed yet, so no costs so far for that.

  • I design a perfect featured image for each post, alongside 3 or 4 unique small photos within the article. In the future, I plan to create short videos for each post.

  • I restructured my categories to make them more accessible and easier to kick off. Now I have 5 main categories, aiming for 10 posts (I call them "Mega Articles") for each. That's a total of 50 posts. If I succeed in hitting a mark of 2 posts/day, I believe it'll be done in under 1 month.

  • I saw my first indexed pages on Google today. I haven't set up Search Console or even Google Analytics yet. What's the best analytics software now? Is it still GA?

  • Interestingly, on Archive.org, I discovered there have been at least 3 attempts at the exact same niche on my domain since 2011. Let's see if I finally succeed.
