Hey big boys,

Today I'm going to start a new journey it's been a long time due to lack of time.
But a new year means a new challenge :)

I'm going to try and invest 1k$ in myself to have success in the production of mobile applications and I'm aiming for the end of 2025: 1k$/month.

To start with, I'm going to teach myself the React Native framework, thanks to its new architecture, which makes it really interesting and fast for cross-mobile development (android/iOS).
My goal is to launch a first small application to understand how it all works (dev, marketing - ASO, store restrictions).

My plan is simple:
1- Learn React Native, I'm a C++/Golang developer so I don't think I'll get too lost.
2- Copy a first working app but add my own vision to the product. (UI/UX/main feature)
3- Post the app on Apple Store and Google Play Store.
4- Do some marketing (ASO at first, if anyone has some experience into hit, please message me to discuss around it)
5- Iterate on the product.

So tonight I'm starting by learning React Native, and I've already got an easy-to-produce app in mind:

This is going to be a logbook, and I'll be sharing all my victories and failures in the hope that some people who've already been through it can give me tips, or even help each other out!

Love to all

Read the @nakamura journeys, lots of info there.
If you make your own company then use it to register on Google play.

If you go as Indie then I recommend you forget Google Play. They want 20 testers before even look at your app. They ban for no reason etc.
You can also rent Google play account but there are lots of scammers, be very careful!

I would go 100% with Apple. Make appstore developer account and build iOS apps.
And go make the Apple account quickly because it may take 3-4 weeks before you get your account activated.
You also need to pay 99$ for apple developer account. Its an yearly payment. 1 time in a year

Thanks for this valuable information, so I'll start by creating an iOS app for my first app!
This will turn my $1k budget into $901, which isn't expensive.

But You need iPhone and MacBook, this costs like 1000-3000$
Or buy used iPhone and Mac.
You need Mac and iPhone to get developer account and to make iOS apps.

I bought used iPhone and bought new MacBook in 2024 for making apps.
But Im not doing them atm.
Im working in Youtube.

Already have a MacBook M3 Pro and iPhone 15, good luck for your youtube project!

I had a similar plan this year, having saved up some fund from last year to try something new.

Started strong, but then life happened. Haven't looked at the project in couple weeks and I've been using the money for other stuff, haha.

Hoping to get back on track soon though. Well, good luck with your project mate!

This could also be an inspiration for me :)

i have published my apps without any tester in Play store and auntil now none of my apps has been removed for almost 3+ years.

love this journey! All the best. :)

it'll prolly cost some money but I'm sure it'll be worth it

This means you have old account.
All new accounts ( I think from 2023 or 24) must get 20 app Testers for 2 weeks.

It's hell.
It doesn't mean you can get app published. They find all excuses to not publish your apps.

Corporate account won't have this issue as I have read.

Big thank you all, I wish all the best for your projects. I will definitely read all the @nakamura journey and I hope I’ll get a result close to his after 2 yo.

Started by learning React Native and Expo, started by exploring the Expo API to see what can I cook.

Actually designing components to understand the logic (it differs from web)

I get some headache yesterday with styling (flex-1 under flex-1 to avoid problems of vertical dimensioning or explosion of my components :weep:)

I’ll be sure to ask you some questions, if you’ll let me: when I come across some big headache :p

Little update this morning, I’m working on a design-system to re-use the same base at my every new app. That allow me to fast my production time!

They won't all look the same, because everything is customizable. It's just a basis for quickly designing a UI/UX and then fine-tuning it.

Best of luck with your journey
Thank you too dude!

Aren't there existing frameworks to help with that instead of making one yourself? Or it's easier for you to deal with just your own code without dealing with somebody else's?
